HBO recently launched its standalone streaming service HBO Max and it boasts over 10,000 hours of content. That means you could watch HBO Max for 24 hours a day for over a year and still have TV and movies to spare. HBO now offers titles from a variety of WarnerMedia properties like TBS, TNT, Cartoon Network, The CW, and TruTV. The platform also premiered new originals called Max Originals that are only available on the service. You get access to all of it for $14.99 a month. Is it worth it? It depends on what you’re looking for, but there are all sorts of fan favorites to be found on the streaming service.
From blockbuster movies to award-winning television, HBO Max has some of the most beloved content in all in one place. Here are the best things to watch on HBO Max.
10. All the Harry Potter
All 8 Harry Potter films from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 are available to stream on the platform. For Potter fans who want a convenient place to watch all of these classics, HBO Max might be the perfect streaming service for you.
As part of their Max Originals programming, HBO released Legendary, a reality competition show about the Ballroom community. 8 Houses compete in Balls for the Legendary title and $100,000. It’s got dance, fashion, drama, and all the voguing you would expect. The celebrity judges include Law Roach, Jameela Jamil, Leiomy Maldonado, and Megan Thee Stallion.
8. Love Life
Anna Kendrick is always a joy to watch perform. In the new comedy series, Love Life Kendrick plays Darby, a young woman who endures a number of colorful dating exploits. The first three episodes of the show have been released and they’re charming and funny enough. This show isn’t breaking any new ground, but if you’re a fan of Kendrick you will love this modest show.
Every episode of Friends in one place? Yes, please. HOB Max snagged the streaming rights for Friends, but it came with a $425 million price tag. Phoebe, Chandler, Rachel, Monica, Ross, and Joey are all there for you on HBO Max. You can rewatch your favorite episodes or just start the journey all over again from the very beginning.
6. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
If Friends doesn’t deliver enough nostalgia, be sure and check out another 90s classic, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. All 148 episodes of the show are streaming at HBO Max. Will Smith is a comedic genius and his excellence is on full display in this hilarious sitcom.
5. Search Party
If you haven’t had the pleasure of watching the first two seasons of Search Party, go ahead and get caught up before the newest season of the show premieres on June 25th. The comedy/mystery/thriller is offbeat and at times extremely tense. The show stars Alia Shawkat who plays Dory, a young woman who leads her friends on a journey to find an acquaintance who has gone missing. What they discover is a reflection of their privilege and insecurities. It’s fantastic. The show originally aired on TBS and we’re excited to see what HBO does with it.
4. All of DC
All of your favorite DC superheroes now have a home at HBO Max. From Batman to Wonder Woman and everything in between, if you love comic book movies, you will be in heaven. We should say, it’s not just DC movies, TV shows like Watchmen, Batwoman, and Doom Patrol are all waiting to be binge-watched.
3. At Home with Amy Sedaris
Amy Sedaris has a distinctive comedy style that out in full force in At Home with Amy Sedaris. If you happened to read her 2008 book, I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence this show will seem familiar to you as it similarly vacillates between homemaking skills and absurdity, often collapsing into one. Guest appearances include Paul Giamatti, Stephen Colbert, Aidy Bryant, and Susan Sarandon.
2. The Wizard of Oz
When was the last time you watched The Wizard of Oz? Join Dorothy and Toto as they venture to find the Wizard in this timeless film. The Wizard of Oz is at home with other classics like Casablanca, Citizen Kane, Tokyo Story, and King Kong. HBO Max has all the movies from Turner Classic Movies streaming now.
