11-Year-Old Indiana Boy Tragically Dies From ‘Fireworks Incident’

An 11-year-old boy died in a tragic “fireworks incident,” in Indiana on Sunday night according to authorities.

Camrynn Ray McMichael of Mt. Vernon was “seriously injured” by fireworks on Sunday night according to a press release shared by the Indiana State Police on Monday. Camrynn died en route to a hospital in Evansville.

“This is an ongoing investigation,” per the release. An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, July 5.

Sgt. Todd Ringle of the Indiana State Police informed the outlet that Camrynn was the only child present among a group of adults lighting fireworks.

Camrynn’s mother, Kyrra Lynn told the outlet how her son loved football, soccer, and basketball.

“He was dedicated, hard-working, (on the) honor roll, and never got in trouble,” she said. “And if he did it’s because he wanted to make everyone laugh. No matter the situation he tried to be happy.”

Camrynn was playing with fireworks that night and was “gone in the blink of an eye.”

The boy also loved his little sister, Karmynn Louise. “He protected her like a big brother should,” said Lynn. “He’s every parent’s dream of a boy.”

Matt Thompson, the superintendent of MSD of Mt. Vernon Schools where Camrynn was a student, also informed the outlet in a statement:

“The MSD of Mount Vernon is saddened by the loss of Camrynn. We are finalizing plans to provide grief counseling later this week for students and staff. It is tragic to lose such a young, energetic life and we hope to support those impacted by his loss to the best of our abilities.”

A family member by the name of Alexandra Eaton created a GoFundMe for Camyrnn’s parents so their family could give him a proper funeral.

Eaton praised the young boy for his tenacity when it came to the classroom as well as on the field.

“He was only 11 years old, excited to start middle school this coming year. Camrynn was all around amazing smart kid. He had an unbelievable passion for football and basketball as he played for Mount Vernon. He was a dedicated young Athlete.”

In addition, she shared how Camrynn had a soft spot for whoever was in need, be it animals or little his little sister.

“Cam was always willing to give a helping hand to whoever needed it. He was a momma’s boy for sure as he helped his mom with whatever he could. Cam enjoyed throwing [the] ball with his Dad. Cam took pride into being a big brother and adored his baby sister. In his sister’s eyes, Camrynn hung the moon.”

“He also enjoyed time with all his friends, Along with hanging out with his second grandmom Beth. Cam also had a soft spot when it came to animals and [was] always willing to help an animal in need.”
