Ahead of the holiday weekend, we have a few delicious treats for your long Memorial Day weekend.
Below we have our favorite home recipes from Allrecipes, paired with high praise from fellow mamas who have tested out the recipes in the kitchens themselves. And so, without further ado…
15. Strawberry Angel Food Dessert
“This recipe is easy to make and very versatile. It always gets lots of compliments when served in a trifle bowl. If you take this dessert to a potluck, don’t expect any leftovers! They will lick the bowl clean.”
14. Dessert Pizza
We served this at 4th of July and had to make 2 (one for the kids and one for the adults). It was the 1st dish to go at both tables! If you are using an open pan (no sides), I recommend putting a dish on the bottom rack to catch any excess dough. I know cookie dough spreads, but this was the 1st time I had make a large cookie and was not prepared for it to spread as much as it did. No worries though, it still turned out beautiful and delicious!
13. Chocolate Mint Brownies
“These were a great hit! After reading some other reviews, I made a regular brownie mix and used the topping from this recipe. I substituted 1 tsp. of peppermint extract for the creme de menthe and had no problem melting the chocolate chips down in the microwave. I’ll [definitely] be making these again. Thanks!”
12. Apple Crisp
“By far the best apple crisp I have had (or made for that matter…). I only used 5 granny smith apples as I also prefer a higher “crust-to-apples” ratio and cut back the white sugar to 1/2 cup as others have suggested. This gave the crisp a perfect sweet/tart flavor, and for some reason there never seems to be any leftovers. This one is a definite keeper.”
11. Simple Creme Brulee Dessert
“Didn’t have a torch so I used the broiler setting in my oven and watched it real close until it was just like I like it… it was super yummy!!! MY FAVORITE!!!”
10. Cold Oven Pound Cake
“I am totally not a cook nor a baker. I just never learned and never wanted to learn. However, this past Thanksgiving my family commissioned me to make a dessert, and I found this one online. Let me tell you, it’s the BEST CAKE! My family went crazy over it. At first no one wanted to try it because I baked it and they didn’t trust my skills, but after their first taste, that cake disappeared! They even begged me to bake it again for Christmas. If you’re a coffee drinker, this cake dunks well in a cup of coffee…yummy!!!!”
9. Blueberry Cornbread
“This was excellent! Sweet and savory with warm, gooey blueberry bursts. I only made a few changes. Subbed brown sugar for white, cut the salt down a bit and added some vanilla. I used home-frozen blueberries and thawed them overnight in the refrigerator. I also baked them as muffins, which the recipe is perfectly suited for. I put them in at 375 for 20 minutes and they came out perfect. Made 14 muffins.”
8. Royal Rhubarb Crisp
“We used our fresh Rhubarb and last year’s fresh frozen strawberries. We doubled the recipe and put it in a large rectangular cake pan. It was delicious! We added about 1 1/2 teaspoons of cinnamon to the topping and loved that, too. It is definitely worth making again!”
7. The Best Banana Pudding
“Delicious! This dish has been a hit at family picnics and with co-workers. I used a glass pan (13×9). …This turns out more like a torte. This is by far one of my favorite desserts!”
6. No Bake Cookies
“These were delicious!! I used creamy peanut butter, instead of crunchy. These disappeared fast, and i would make them again and again!”
5. Easy Key Lime Pie
“This is the best! Being a Floridian, I have had my share of both very good and very bad Key Lime Pie…[this is] the new #1 key lime pie for my family.”
4. Best Brownies
“Many moons ago I worked in a Duncan Hines test kitchen and have made up to 20 batches of brownies a day and let me say this is a good, easy recipe for homemade brownies.”
3. Lemon Icebox Pie
“This recipe is fabulous! The pie comes out beautiful and so tasty. I used the zest and juice of 3 lemons and it turned out great. Just enough tartness to offset the sweetness of the cream cheese and condensed milk. A hint? Keep it in the freezer for a while before you eat it, makes it even more refreshing!”
2. Easy Pavlova
“FANTASTIC. Growing up in Australia this dish was part of our national identity, but here in the US I could just never get it right. This recipe is just as it should be. We always let this dish cool in the oven – just turn the oven off at the end of the cooking time and leave it there (even overnight!). For those who have found that it sometimes sticks, in Australia we would coat the paper with a thin dusting of corn starch before spooning the mix onto the baking tray.”
1. Fresh Southern Peach Cobbler
“This is the best cobbler I have tasted! Family went nuts over it. Easy, too! I will make this again, for sure. I would include details on peeling the peaches for newbies. Place the peaches in boiling water for about 60 seconds, remove and plunge into cold water. The skins should slip right off.”
