There are a lot of toddlers going viral on TikTok these days, but there’s something about Semaj that makes him unique. Many users are labeling the 2-year-old an ‘old soul’ for the way he talks, the way he acts, and his personality as a whole – he’s always saying or doing something so profound, yet so pure.
His precious moments are constantly being caught on camera by his mother, Azha Prather – who has to stay on her toes to make sure she doesn’t miss anything. Luckily for her followers, she was ready with her camera when she walked in on her son doing the dishes. “Semaj!” she says, which he replies, “Ma’am…”
“What you doin?” Azha asks her son. “Washin’ dishes. Why you taking a picture of me?” he responds, as if his mother is interrupting him. “I’m not taking a picture of you, but you’re making a mess. You got water everywhere,” she says, to which he responds, “You got shoes on. So, go over there and clean up!”

The video, which was posted to TikTok on November 16, 2022, went viral and received millions of views – as many of his videos do. In the four months since it was posted, the video has more than 34.3 million views, 5.5 million likes, and more than 130,000 comments. It’s his most viral video yet, for good reason.
In an interview with PEOPLE, Azha describes the moment her son first went viral. It all started one night when Semaj asked his momma for fruit snacks before bed. She agreed and got him some fruit snacks, but she never could’ve guessed what he said when she returned to the bed, where he was snacking.
“You’re so beautiful,” he says upon her return. “Always, when you came in here, you were beautiful.” She posted the video of his kind words and things just took off from there. Azha was used to receiving a lot of views at the time, but this video received 11 million views and 2 million likes. He was officially a superstar!
“It comes naturally to him. I try to keep a camera on him all the time because I just never know what he’s going to say. I never know what he’s going to do. It’s just his lifestyle, just Maj being Maj,” Azha said of her viral child. And we’re glad she keeps a camera on him because it makes for some wholesome content!
Azha’s Grandmother Foreshadowed Semaj’s TikTok Success
They often say grandmothers know best and that remains true in the case of Semaj and his success on TikTok. During her interview with PEOPLE, Azha Prather talked about how her grandmother predicted Semaj’s eccentric and unique personality from the moment she brought him home for the first time.
“My grandmother, whom he calls Ma, really told me, when we came home from the hospital. I walked in and she was looking kind of strange. So I asked her, ‘Ma, why are you looking like that?’ And she said, ‘That’s gonna be a strange baby,’” Azha told PEOPLE. Apparently, Ma’s ‘spidey senses’ were tingling.
While Azha initially took offense at her grandmother’s comment, she later asked her what was meant by it. Her grandmother said it wasn’t a bad thing, but said ‘she would see’ in due time what she meant – and that she did! “From there, it just started moving fast,” she said, referring to Semaj’s growing personality.
