It’s official: Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are parents! The royal couple welcomed their first baby, a boy, earlier today (May 6, 2019).
Buckingham Palace confirmed the arrival of Meghan and Harry’s first child in a statement sent to press.
“The Queen and the Royal Family are delighted at the news that Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Sussex was safely delivered of a son at 0526am today,” the statement reads. “Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.”

The statement was also displayed (in royally dramatic fashion, of course) in front of Buckingham Palace.
The announcement was also made on the new, official Instagram account for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex (that would be Meghan and Harry!).
What We Know About Meghan, Harry, and Their Baby So Far
According to statements from Buckingham Palace and the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Meghan and Harry’s son was born at 5:26 a.m. GMT on Monday, May 6, 2019. The baby weighed 7 lbs. and 3 oz. at birth. Prince Harry was, of course, present for the birth. Lastly, both mother and child are in good health. All good news!
Prince Harry also took a moment to make a statement to press, reiterating that both mother and child are doing well. He also expressed amazement at his wife’s strength, saying “It’s been the most amazing experience… How any woman does what they do is beyond comprehension.”
That is one proud papa!
When Can We Expect the First Glimpse of the Royal Baby?
When Prince William and Kate Middleton welcomed their children, they famously posed outside the hospital with their new bundles of joy shortly after birth.
In his statement to press, Prince Harry said we can expect to see both Meghan and the new baby boy in two days’ time. (See the second video of Prince Harry speaking in the Instagram post above.)
He also said that they are still thinking about names.
In summation, it sounds like everything went very well for Meghan, Harry, and their new baby. Plus, there remains excitement on the horizon: first pictures! The name! So much we still need to know!
