How One Amazing Dad Got 5,000 Changing Tables Added to Men’s Restrooms Throughout the Country

Father-of-three Donte Palmer became a social media sensation last year after he shared a picture of himself changing his son’s diaper in a men’s restroom. It was a particularly notable image because most men’s restrooms don’t have changing tables. As a result, Donte had to change his son’s diaper while he laid across his lap.

The overwhelming response to the picture got Donte thinking about how he could encourage businesses to add changing table to men’s restrooms. He founded #SquatForAChange, an organization committed to “arming dads with the proper changing table resources they need to be hands-on with their children.”

After months of campaigning, Palmer has partnered with Pampers and Koala Care to “champion thousands of dads who have used social media to voice their desire to see changing table equality,” according to a Pampers’ press release. Pampers and Koala Care are working together to add 5,000 changing tables to public restrooms across the U.S. by 2021.

“I’m excited, I’m honored, I’m using the moment to teach my boys that if you have a dream, if you have an issue with something, open your mouth, chase it, go attack that thing you want and it’ll come,” Palmer told Metro. “That’s why I’ve been giving my heart to this campaign to change men’s lives. I’m proud to have a huge partnership with Pampers and Koala Care which will help people really receive my message.”

John Legend also supports Palmer’s campaign and has partnered with Pampers and Koala Care to encourage additional businesses to add changing tables to their public restrooms.
