Archie Is Already the Most Popular Baby Name of 2019

Since becoming engaged to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s fashion choices, pregnancy must-haves, and more have topped trend lists worldwide — and it’s no different with her son, Archie Harrison. According to Nameberry, Archie now tops the list of the most popular names of the year so far.

Nameberry noted that midway through the year, Archie had 50 percent more page views than any other boy name, which they attribute to the newest royal baby’s birth and recent christening.

The Royals aren’t the only ones who favor the name, which means “truly brave.” It has been one of the Top 100 names in England since 2000. Stateside, it dropped in popularity in the ’80s, but has been regaining popularity in the last year or so.

Archie, who was born on May 6, was named after Archibald Campbell, 9th Earl of Argyll of Scotland, who was an ancestor of Princess Diana. His middle name, Harrison, is a nod to Prince Harry.

As for girls’ names, the most popular girl’s name in 2019 so far is Isla, which held the number one spot over Olivia for the first time. Charlotte, the name of Prince William and Duchess Kate’s daughter, takes the number five slot.

Nameberry picks the names based on which name pages have the most views (the site had about 30 million page views in the first half of 2019). The list does not necessarily reflect the most popular names chosen by new parents.

Archie’s Christening

This news comes shortly after Archie’s christening, which took place on Saturday, July 6. The ceremony made headlines around the world and featured all of the expected royalty as guests. (Hi, Kate Middleton!)

Things didn’t go off without a hitch, however. Many commentators took the opportunity to criticize Harry and Meghan for their spending, citing a $3 million renovation to their Frogmore Cottage residence. People were apparently also very upset with Prince Harry’s shoes, for some reason. And let us not forget how offended some people were at Kate Middleton’s choice of earrings! Apparently some people believe she wore the jewelry, which was originally worn by Princess Diana for Prince Harry’s own christening, in an effort to upstage Meghan. Please…

Stay tuned for more royal drama (and more cute photos of baby Archie)!
