Amber Portwood’s Young Daughter’s Reaction to Her Mom’s Arrest Is Raw and Emotional

Earlier this summer, Amber Portwood was arrested for threatening her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, with a machete, among other household items. At the time of the incident, Andrew was holding the couple’s 1-year-old son, James.

Much attention has been paid to how Amber is managing following the arrest, but not much has been heard about her 10-year-old daughter, Leah, whom she shares with ex Gary Shirley, until now.

MTV captured Shirley and his wife, Kristina, reacting to the arrest in an emotional video shared on Teen Mom OG. In the clip, the couple discusses how Leah is holding up.

In the video, Gary and Kristina were eating at a local diner discussing the case.

“This has impacted all of us. She didn’t just affect her own self and her own family,” Gary said. “It trickles down to us, too.”

“Ultimately, Leah is almost 11. She knows a lot of what’s going on. I think the only thing she’s said to me is, ‘If Mommy goes back to prison, what happens to James?” said Kristina. “’Will James be taken away from me as well?’ We don’t have those answers.”

Can you imagine being 10 and wondering how your 1-year-old brother will cope with his mom in prison? Devastating.

Amber is clearly missing her children. She recently shared an emotional message about them on Instagram, writing, “Every night I sit and think about my life and my children. Never once have I stopped….not once these last 2 month’s. Foolish people that’s all I see and then there’s those beautiful souls who know better. Always sending love no matter what.”

Amber spent 17 months in jail several years ago on drug and probation violation charges. The current case is ongoing.
