At what age should kids be allowed to wear makeup? In the Kardashian-West house, it turns out that six is too young.
Kim Kardashian-West recently shared that North West, 6, had been experimenting with wearing some makeup, but she’s no longer allowed to wear any after Kanye West deemed her too young.

This isn’t the first time North West has taken inspiration from her mother’s beauty routine. She has previously been featured on Kim’s Instagram wearing lipstick and eyeshadow. In one series of videos Kim shared on Instagram Story, North can be seen attempting to contour makeup with some light foundation, bronzer, and a brush. Kim’s sister, Kylie Jenner, has also gifted some of her famous lip kits to North and her nieces.
“I’d let her wear — you know, she has a little red for Christmas — I’d let her wear a red lip, or I’d her do one pop of something,” said Kim, who was being interviewed E! News during her KKW x WINNIE makeup collaboration dinner. “I’d let her, if she’s wearing a black dress, a black lip.”
“So, I kind of got in trouble for that,” she said of West’s reaction to seeing the makeup on his daughter. “So, it’s now no more makeup.”
Considering Kanye married into a family of beauty gurus, it seems a little odd he’d have such a problem with his daughter wearing a tiny bit of makeup. After all, a six-year-old wearing a little makeup for fun is not unheard of. But what Kanye wants, Kanye gets, apparently.
In addition to a high-minded beauty routine, North is also on her way to becoming a fashion icon herself. She recently landed the cover of WWD Beauty Inc. –her first solo cover – as well as her runway debut.
Makeup or not, North still seems to be making her way up (get it) on the world. A little six-year-old legend!
