NBC News Reporter Trying to Break News About Airstrikes in Syria Is Interrupted by Her Son Live On-Air

Courtney Kube is a correspondent for NBC News, and as viewers watching MSNBC’s morning broadcast on October 9 learned, she is also a mom. While reporting on Turkey’s invasion of Syria, she was interrupted by an adorable 4-year-old, who also happened to be Kube’s son.

Being a working parent is hard, and some times that means working from home or bringing your child into the office if you don’t have childcare that day. And this is far from the first time a child has interrupted their parents when they were busy, and this also isn’t the first time a reporter was bombarded on air.

In 2017, while doing a live shot from his home office for BBC News, professor Robert Kelly was surprised when his two children busted into his space when his wife took her eye off them for one second.

And then there was the time in 2018 when pro football insider Ian Rapoport was also working from home and his son, who was sick that day, just needed to sit on his dad’s lap while he was talking football.

And Kube handled the moment her son appeared on camera similarly to her counterparts. While trying to stay on track with her report, Kube calmly said, “Excuse me, my kids are here, live television.”

However, unlike the other examples above, MSNBC was armed with a graphic to avoid the hilariously adorable moment from becoming too distracting. The news station later made light of the situation on Twitter writing, “Sometimes unexpected breaking news happens while you’re reporting breaking news.”

Nearly 60,000 people liked the funny clip, and even more praised MSNBC for allowing children to come to work with their parents when it’s necessary. One Twitter user wrote, “I think it’s fantastic that she’s allowed to have her kids around while working. Good on you MSNBC.”

And another added, “MSNBC, thank you for highlighting this sweet moment and supporting your working moms.”

Others, including her colleagues, also praised Kube for handling the situation like a pro. CNBC reporter, Amanda Macias, wrote on Twitter, “Proof that [Kube] is the hardest working mom in the Pentagon press corps and all the while consistently breaks news. Goals.”

Kube has yet to personally comment on the humorous situation and it’s unclear if she will.
