7-Year-Old Mauled To Death By Dogs While Taking A Walk With His Brother

This past Sunday, a 7-year-old boy was mauled to death in Marion, South Carolina by multiple dogs.

Shamar Sherif Jackson was a straight-A first-grader at Lake View Elementary School. He died Sunday night according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office.

“It appears the small child was mauled” by more than one dog “while walking in his neighborhood with his brother, who was able to escape,” reads a sheriff’s office statement on the boy’s death. “The investigation continues and we are actively seeking the dogs and their possible owner.”

On Monday, deputies executed a search warrant at a home on Cleo Road, not far from where Shamar was attacked.

“Five adult dogs and one puppy were seized” during the search. And as of Wednesday morning, no criminal charges had been filed.

Information on the breeds of the dogs involved has yet to become available. It is also unclear if any of the seized dogs were involved in the attack, had been euthanized, or if officials planned to put the animals down.

Shamar’s father, Carnell Jackson, said the siblings were out looking for their Chihuahua when a pack of dogs attacked them.

“They couldn’t get away because it was so many dogs coming from different directions,” Jackson informed The State newspaper. “I didn’t think I would come home and find my son dead.” Reportedly, the boy’s clothes were torn from his body by the dogs.

In an update to the Marion County Sheriff’s Facebook page, it seems someone was caught. A search warrant was executed yesterday in the death investigation of 7-year-old Shamar Jackson.

Many users were quick to comment on the tragic news. One user said: “Please charge the dog owners to the fullest extent of the law. When you own a dog capable of killing a human, you need to be prepared to suffer the consequences if it ever happens.”

While another commented: “Who is going to fight to pass a law in this child’s honor? Why didn’t the city protect the streets after multiple complaints. What happened to public safety!?”

Currently, donations are being welcome to help the family cover Shamar’s funeral costs.

An account has been established at Anderson Brothers Bank for anyone wishing to donate and all of the bank’s locations are accepting donations for the Shamar Jackson Fund. The investigation is active and ongoing.
