Check out the brains on 9-year-old child prodigy Laurent Simons! The young Belgian genius is on track to receive his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE) at the end of this year.
Laurent’s parents, Lydia and Alexander Simmons, told CNN that it was Laurent’s grandparents who first pointed out his exceptional talents.

“They noticed something very special about Laurent,” said Lydia.
Laurent was given multiple tests by educators to figure out the best academic plan, leading to his college enrollment. The student’s teachers have compared him to a sponge, allowing him to absorb endless amounts of information and to complete courses at an exceptionally fast pace.
“Laurent is the fastest student we have ever had here. Not only is he hyper-intelligent but also a very sympathetic boy,” said Sjoerd Hulshof, education director of the TUE bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
After earning his degree, Laurent has no plans of slowing down. He hopes to enroll in an electrical engineering Ph.D. program and study medicine in his future.
The boy genius has hopes of one day developing artificial organs.
At the end of the grueling academic day, Laurent still finds time to be a kid and enjoys playing outside.
“We don’t want him to get too serious. He does whatever he likes,” shared his father Alexander. “We need to find a balance between being a child and his talents.”
What an inspiration! (Although now we feel like dummies…)
