Add this to the top of the list of uncomfortable dating app stories. Tinder, as you probably know, is a popular dating app. It’s the go-to spot for singles who are looking for some sort of romantic connection. Therefore, you’d (rightly) assume that committed, married couples wouldn’t be using Tinder, since they’re already, you know, committed. Unfortunately, that’s not true for one man, who matched with his own wife on the app.
A married man recently shared his cringe-worthy story on Reddit about what happened when he downloaded the app “for fun” because he felt “lonely” while his wife was on a work trip. The long and short if it? This man matched with his own wife on Tinder.

“I found myself downloading Tinder on a particularly lonely night. I don’t even know why. I didn’t have any intentions. But I did it,” he shared. “I swiped here and there and got pretty bored with it. It was a funny reminder of that time of my life. I deleted it and moved on.”
He goes on to explain that he later downloaded the app again when his wife left on a business trip. As he was swiping, he had the shock of a lifetime when his wife’s picture came up. “I wondered if I should just delete it and pretend nothing happened. I thought maybe a bot stole her picture, but I read her profile…it’s her. I decided to make a bold move and swipe right. I swiped and we matched.”
The couple, who met on Tinder three years ago, do not have an open relationship. The swiper went on to say that he wants to confront his wife as soon as she returns home from her work trip. “Now I have to explain why I was on Tinder. This is just a huge can of worms that got opened,” he added.
The Reddit community as quick to point out how foolish his actions had been, while some also added that the two were clearly meant for one another.
One Redditor slyly added, “She prob downloaded Tinder on a particularly lonely night. She didn’t even know why. She didn’t have any intentions. But she did it.”
Another brought up further good points: “Honestly, what probably happened is that someone she knows or one of her friends saw you on tinder the FIRST time you went on, so she decided to investigate for herself. The fact that you matched with her instantly after you swiped on her photo means that she saw your photo first and swiped on it. So I don’t think she’d be going on tinder to cheat if she’s swiping on your photo.”
It seems this couple does, indeed, deserve each other. Happy swiping, guys!
