A couple from Virginia has quite an emotional birth story to share after giving birth to their son in a bathtub.
LeeAnn Bienaime and her husband Leo had gone to Naval Medical Center Portsmouth on August 23 after LeeAnn began going into labor. They waited at the hospital a few hours and then were told to go home and not return until her contractions were closer together, according to WTKR.

After returning home, though, LeeAnn’s contractions were getting stronger and stronger. At one point, she went to the bathroom and felt her son’s head coming out. She and Leo called 911 and she went into the bathtub while they waited.
“I had to let instinct take over and just go with it and kind of release myself to the experience,’ she told WTKR.

Their son, Joachim, was born just four hours after they returned home from the hospital.
A spokesperson for the hospital told People, “Naval Medical Center Portsmouth is committed to ensuring the safety of every patient and providing high-quality care.”
“NMCP safely and professionally delivers approximately 2,500 babies annually,” they continued. “Whenever a patient has a question about their care and treatment we welcome the opportunity to discuss this with them in order to fully address their concerns. Due to HIPAA, we cannot discuss anything specific on an individual’s medical treatment without their authorization.”
“We were able to have a healthy birth, a healthy baby boy — that’s why I’m not completely enraged,” LeeAnn told People. “I feel like if it had gone another way, it would’ve been a different story.”
