On September 19 at 6:14 p.m., authorities confirmed that the body discovered in Wyoming did fit the description of Gabby Petito. However, at the time of that discovery, a full examination performed by the corner has not yet been completed. As a result of that, authorities couldn’t confirm 100-percent that it was Gabby.
However, on September 21, it was confirmed with certainty that the body discovered near Spread Creek in Wyoming is Gabby Petito. And the coroner has reported that her cause of death was homicidal.
As the FBI previously revealed, her parents have been notified. It remains that “the cause of death is pending final autopsy results.” This investigation is still ongoing.
After it was reported that the last known siting of the white van Gabby Petito and her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, were traveling in was near Spread Creek Dispersed Camping in Grand Teton National Park, a foot search took place. Sadly, the foot search results in the discovery of Petito’s body.
According to ABC 7, “the Teton County coroner confirms they have dispatched resources to a body found in the national forest.” It is still believed that her fiancé, Brian Laundrie was one of the last people to see her alive. He remains a person of interest in the case and at large.
It was reported on Friday, September 17 that Laundrie had disappeared. While his parents had not seen him since Tuesday, September 14, they did not notify authorities until Friday. A search for him continues.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Gabby Petito and Brian Laundrie began what was supposed to be a four-month-long vacation together traveling across the United States. The couple began in Florida where they resided together at Laundrie’s parents’ house.

Petito had recently quit her job as a nutritionist to pursue traveling as a full-time gig. Petito and Laundrie were reportedly working together to start a traveling blog.
During their recent domestic travels, which began on July 2, the couple used their social media pages to document their travels. They even began a YouTube page as well.
The page only has one video posted to it. It’s unclear exactly when Petito went missing. However, the last verbal communication her family had with her was on August 25, when Petito called her mom to tell her what she and Brian were up to.
Prior to that phone call, on the 24, Petito called her father to let him know they were at a hotel and that the power was out. She mentioned to her dad that she was hungry and so he had sent her a pizza.
Her parents revealed that following that August 25 phone call, they received several text messages from Gabby’s phone. However, they admitted that they weren’t convinced those texts were actually sent by Gabby.
According to newly released pieces of evidence, the last text message Petito’s mother received said this:
“Can you help Stan, I just keep getting his voicemails and missed calls.” Stan is Gabby’s grandfather. But according to Gabby’s mother, the 22-year-old never referred to her grandpa by his first name.
It was later confirmed that several campers saw Petito and Laundrie’s white Ford van parked in an unmarked spot at Spread Creek. The last known siting of the van at that location was on August 29.
On September 1, Laundrie returned to Florida in the van the couple had modified for their vacation. This was just two days after a woman on TikTok claims to have picked him up as Brian was hitchhiking, the last day the white van was seen at Spread Creek.
Gabby was not with him while hitchhiking. Additionally, a group of YouTubers and a second TikToker also spotted Petito’s van parked off to the side of a trail located in Spread Creek Dispersed Camping in Grand Teton National Park. Neither person who saw the van saw Gabby.
It was on September 11, the same day the missing person report was filed, Laundrie was pulled over in the white van in Florida. Gabby Petito was not inside. According to Petito’s parents, prior to filing a missing person report, they had tried to get in contact with Brian and his parents to see where Gabby could be, or at least the last place Brian had seen her. Sadly, reports have stated that Brian refused to cooperate.
“Anyone with information concerning Mr. Laundrie’s role in this matter or his current whereabouts should contact the FBI,” Special Agent in Charge Michael Schneider said.
