Travis Scott’s Astroworld Festival Ends Tragically With 8 Dead and Hundreds Injured

As Travis Scott awaits the birth of his second child with Kylie Jenner, tragedy struck at his latest concert. While in his hometown, Houston, Texas, Scott put on a live concert for over 50,000 people.

The Astroworld festival followed his Cactus Jack charity softball game on Thursday night. Among the 50,000 in attendance were members of Scott and Kylie’s families, including Kylie’s sister, Kendall Jenner.

Many Dead, Even More Injured at Travis Scott Astroworld Concert

According to CNN, at least 8 people are dead and hundreds have been injured when a crowd surge occurred while Scott was playing on stage. As the mass of people reportedly pushed forward toward the stage it trapped many of the concert-goers, squeezing them in and leaving them trapped. The incident happened just after 9 p.m.

As CNN reported, the concert was being held at NRG Park, the stadium complex where the Astrodome and the NRG Stadium stand. It was a sold-out concert.

According to KHOU 11, HFD Chief Sam Pena revealed that the surge caused “panic and people were getting injured. HFD transported 17 people to hospitals and 11 of those transported were in cardiac arrest.”

100,000 tickets were sold back in May for the concert and they all sold out within 10 minutes, ABC 13 reports. This concert was first scheduled in 2020 but canceled to COVID-19.

The festival was scheduled to continue into November 6. However, due to the tragedy, the second day of the Astroworld festival has been canceled.

Sadly, as XXL Magazine revealed on Twitter, this was not the first concern that occurred at Travis Scott’s festival. Concert goers burst through the security barriers causing several people to fall to the ground as people tripped over each other.

WARNING: Some of the language heard during this video could be found as offensive to some.

In a statement issued on the Astroworld Fest’s Instagram, it begins by saying, “our hearts are with the Astroworld festival family tonight—especially those we lost and their loved ones. We are focused on supporting local officials however we can.”

“With that in mind, the festival will no longer be held on Saturday. As authorities mentioned in their press conference earlier. They are looking into the series of cardiac arrests that took place. If you have any relevant information on this, please reach out to the Hoston Police. Thank you to our partners at the Houston Police Department, fire department, and NRG Park for their response and support.”

The investigation into this tragedy is still ongoing. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who lost their lives and were injured.
