A source is revealing how Nick Cannon is dealing after the host opened up about the death of his 5-month-old son. According to reports, Zen Scott Cannon, whom Cannon shared with model Alyssa Scott passed away after battling hydrocephalus.
Hydrocephalus is rare and causes a build-up of fluid in the cavities of the brain. Treatment often includes inserting a shunt to help drain the fluid, which Zen underwent.

Sadly, over the Thanksgiving weekend, Zen’s condition worsened. An emotional Nick Cannon opened up about his son’s tragic passing on his talk show.
“Before the show started in the summertime, Zen was born in June, on June 23, actually. And it was a great day, as you know I got a lot of kids,” Cannon continued. “During the summer it was exciting… but I always noticed he had like a sinus thing, like a cough. And I just wanted to check it out,” Cannon explained. “But he always had this really interesting breathing.”
It was the routine checkup to check on Zen’s breathing that revealed the excess fluid in the infant’s brain. Cannon went on to say from that moment on he embraced every moment he had with his Zen and made sure to bask in the moment when his other children got to love on his youngest son as well.
“I’m so grateful to my entire family for coming together during this time and being so loving and not judgmental of me,” Cannon said in his statement before praising Zen’s mother for being a pillar of strength. She’s “the strongest woman I’ve ever seen cause she never had an argument, never was angry, was emotional when she needed to be, but was always the best mom and continues to be the best mom possible.”
Source Reveals How Nick Cannon Is Coping With the Loss of His Youngest Child
Now, a source is revealing how Cannon is handling the grief of losing a child so young. “His friends are rallying around him and just want to be there for him because they know this type of pain will impact him for the rest of his life,” a source told ET Online.
“Those closest to him are reaching out to offer their help and give him their condolences. Nick appreciates the support but at the moment he just wants to be there for Zen’s mother.”
As Nick made evident in his original statement, he is relying on God for strength. And as the source revealed, that remains true.
“Nick’s entire life has become only family and work. He wants nothing more than to honor the time he had with Zen and to focus on being there for Alyssa. He feels lucky to have had the little time he did with his son, but even more so a sense of relief Zen is in peace. Nick is incredibly spiritual and that has helped to guide him through this but he knows the true healing will take time.”
Nonetheless, while Nick has turned to his faith to help guide him through this trying time, the source said his friends are worried about him. After all, losing his youngest son has “been one of the most trying times of his life.”
“The reality of the situation has been very difficult for him to absorb. It’s been a beautiful year with the birth of his kids but nothing could have prepared him for this. He feels so blessed to have them. He’s very close to all of the women in his life. Family means everything to him and this time has been a reminder of that.”
Nick shares seven children with four different women, Zen made his arrival earlier this year in June. Our thoughts and prayers remain with Cannon, Alyssa, and their families during this extremely difficult time.
