Heidi Montag was spotted eating a raw bison heart dripping with blood out of a freezer bag on Thursday.
The reality television personality, 35, is apparently trying a fertility diet that has her consuming all sorts of raw animal meat.
Heidi Montag Has Been Trying to Conceive a Second Child for Over a Year and a Half.
Montag is eating raw meat in the hopes of becoming pregnant with her second child with her partner, Spencer Pratt.
“I love trying new things! I’ve always been very interested in various types of diets,” Montag explained to People, sharing that she’s into “anthropology,” especially “the way humans are meant to eat.”
“When you think about where the most nutrients are that are bioavailable to humans without toxins,” she also said, “organs are very nutritious parts of animals. Culturally organs are a critical part. Eating raw liver is going to preserve as many nutrients as possible.”
The Hills: New Beginnings star understands the diet is controversial. There’s “always risk eating raw just like eating raw sushi,” she reasoned. “I just happen to like eating sushi-style organs.”
She said that she decided to start eating raw meat after researching “the carnivore diet.” She cited the writing of Paul Saladino, MD as being particularly persuasive. After reading Saladino’s work, she said, “I thought I would give it a try.”
“I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year and a half, I’m willing to try different things,” she explained her reasoning. “It’s a great source of nutrients! I have felt incredible on this diet. A lot more energy, clarity, increased libido, and overall improvement on chronic pain I have had. Also now I’ve been taking the supplements called ‘Her Package’ from Heart and Soil that has improved my menstrual cycle.”
When asked about the taste of the raw organs she’s consuming she replied, “I have definitely adjusted to the taste. I do like the taste cooked. I mean I love Foie gras.”
Montag-watchers know that this is not the first time the TV personality has publicly shown herself eating raw meat. Last month, she took to her Instagram stories to show herself eating a raw liver and bull testicles. She claimed at the time that there are “so many benefits to eating liver” and “animal organs.”
The mother of 4-year-old, Gunner Stone, has been looking for ways to increase her fertility chances ever since she underwent surgery last August for the removal of non-cancerous uterine polyps.
At the time, Montag shared a YouTube video saying that she’d undergone a hysteroscopic polypectomy.
“I was feeling nervous last night about it, but I’m excited today,” Montag said just before getting the surgery. “And I hoping that the surgery works and that this is the only reason I haven’t been able to get pregnant.”
“Hopefully after this, I can get pregnant right away,” she said of her desired outcome.
“All done!” she said following the procedure. “And then I can have intercourse in two days, and I’m ovulating. So hopefully, this is the time. But just praying that it’s God’s timing […] I’m just so happy to have this done.”
In January, Montag shared an image of herself and Gunner on Instagram with a caption to update fans on her pregnancy journey.
“I never thought it would be so hard trying to have another,” she wrote alongside the gallery-style post.
“I am trusting God’s plan and if we only have one I am so thankful for this miracle!” she added.
Although unorthodox, we are pleased that Montag has been open about her fertility and pregnancy struggles. While there are a variety of ways to increase fertility, Montag has clearly chosen a path less traveled. We sincerely hope that her raw meat diet gives her the desired outcome.
