Louisiana authorities are claiming a “miracle” led to the discovery of an 8-month-old baby in a field after he went missing overnight.
The baby, named Niguel Jackson, was discovered Wednesday in Baton Rouge, local news affiliate WAFB reports.
The Baby’s Mother’s ‘Medical Issues’ Could Be to Blame for the Disappearance.
“The infant was taken to a local hospital for precautionary medical treatment,” a  Facebook post from Baton Rouge police reads. “It’s believed that the mother suffered apparent medical issues.”
“No charges are pending at this point in time. This investigation remains ongoing,” the press release also stated.
Before finding Niguel, both the police department and Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services had searched for hours for the missing boy. He was eventually spotted from a police helicopter in a field, according to reporting from The Advocate.
“The medics jumped on him and started treating him right away and […] I think he’s gonna be fine,” an EMS spokesperson, Mike Chuzta, told WAFB. “It’s still in a dangerous area but still think that it’s just a miracle basically to see the condition he was in. I did not expect that at all.”
Niguel reportedly went missing Tuesday after his mother went to a fire station and she was subsequently taken to a hospital. On Wednesday morning, she took authorities to an area near a church close to their home, where she claimed she had left Niguel the previous day.
The mother had taken Niguel with her on Tuesday when she left home, family members told investigators. However, by the time she got to the fire station, the baby was no longer with her.
Chuzta shared with The Advocate that Niguel “didn’t even cry during the rescue,” which occurred after temperatures had fallen into the 50s.
“The timing didn’t give us a lot of hope,” he said. “But, the baby was tough.”Â

Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome of Baton Rouge thanked the “emergency responders and community members whose quick coordination led to the recovery of the missing infant,” in a statement released the morning that Niguel was found.
“Should anyone be experiencing a mental health crisis, organizations like Capital Area Human Services are available to the public,” Broome said, sharing several resources.
What a scary situation that could have easily ended in tragedy. We are so pleased that the “miracle” baby, Niguel is safe once more.
