Kim Kardashian Makes Shocking Claim After Receiving Backlash for the Weigh She Lost to Fit Into Marilyn Monroe’s Dress

Kim Kardashian made serious waves when she stepped onto the Met Gala red carpet donning Marilyn Monroe’s 1962 dress.

The stunning gown holds the record for being the most expensive dress ever sold at auction, and Ripley’s Believe It or Not allowed Kim to wear the $4.8 million piece after years of it being preserved in a darkened and temperature-controlled vault.

The dress is actually so valuable that Kim was only given permission to wear it for a “matter of minutes,” and she had to change into a replica immediately after leaving the red carpet.

The daring look caused many people to be split on if it was ethical — with many arguing that it was “disrespectful” to the memory of Marilyn for Kim to wear it to the gala. While others claimed that the backlash against Kim was actually a reflection of deep-rooted misogyny.

Along with the dress controversy, Kim also faced heat for her “botched” platinum blonde hair, which was styled into a slick bun.

A hairstylist went on to reveal why Kim’s finished tresses looked so patchy and uneven, which, allegedly was due to her decision to go from brunette to bleach blonde in just one day.

In addition, Kim’s Met Gala look continued to spark backlash when she revealed that she’d lost a significant amount of weight in just three weeks so that she could fit into Marilyn’s dress.

“I always thought she was extremely curvy. I imagined I might be smaller in some places where she was bigger and bigger in places where she was smaller. So when it didn’t fit me I wanted to cry because it can’t be altered at all,” Kim explained to Vogue.

She went on to recall how she almost cried “tears of joy” when she was able to fit into the gown in time for the event after severely restricting her diet for close to a month.

Many of Kim’s comments were thought to be “irresponsible” for “promoting extremely disordered eating” at the time, and many took to social media, fellow celebrities included, to address her controversial comments.

Actor Lili Reinhart was one of those critics, writing on her Instagram story, “So wrong. So f***** on 100s of levels. To openly admit to starving yourself for the sake of the Met Gala.”

However, Kim was quick to defend herself, urging that she was being “healthy” and that she “simply couldn’t have gone” to the Met if she wasn’t able to reach her target to wear the dress. She also compared her weight loss to those who prefer method acting.

“To me, it was like, ‘OK, Christian Bale can do it for a movie role and that is acceptable.’ Even Renée Zellweger gained weight for a role. It’s all the same to me. I wasn’t saying, ‘Hey everyone, why don’t you go lose this weight in a short period of time?’ It was just important to me to reach that goal. [If I hadn’t lost the weight], I just simply couldn’t have gone, which wouldn’t have mattered. It was this or nothing. I didn’t starve myself, but I was so strict.”
