In a statement made by Prince William County Police, a 10-month-old baby girl has died after she fell out of a moving car. According to the statement, the incident took place on June 12 at around 1:15 p.m.
According to police, investigators responded to the report of a fatal crash that occurred in Woodbridge, Virginia. As reports reveal, the child was placed unrestrained inside a 2013 Toyota Highlander while her mom drove a short distance to a nearby dumpster.
Baby Dies After She Falls Out of Moving Car
As the statement further revealed, after arriving at the dumpster, the mom drove back to the residence where she was staying, stopping to pick up family members along the way. However, that is when tragedy struck.
According to police, when one of the family members opened the rear door of the vehicle, the unrestrained child fell from the vehicle onto the street beneath them. The mother immediately left the driver’s seat of the car to check on her child.
“When one of the family members opened the rear door to the vehicle, the unrestrained child fell from the vehicle and onto the roadway.” However, when leaving the vehicle the mom forgot to put the car in park, causing it to roll forward, striking the child.
“The driver immediately exited the vehicle to check on the child’s welfare. The vehicle’s transmission was still in drive when the driver exited the vehicle causing it to roll forward where it then struck the child.” As a result, the 10-month-old baby girl suffered a serious head injury and was transported to the hospital by the mother.
Hours later, the child passed away due to her injuries. Police reveal the investigation is ongoing, but no charges have been made as of June 13.

She was reportedly visiting family with her 10-month-old when the incident occurred. It remains unclear why the baby was put into the car unrestrained.
