Rocker Bret Michaels Shares Update After He Was Hospitalized Just Before Taking the Stage Following Medical Emergency While on Tour

While on tour with his band, Poison, Bret Michaels was admitted to the hospital while he was in Nashville. In an update shared on June 30, Michaels thanked his fans for his well-wishes and expressed regret knowing he would have to cancel the show.

“I was truly fired up to get on stage in the Music City and perform, but due to an unforeseen medical complication & following hospitalization, it was not possible. I send my deepest apologies for being unable to rock the stage tonight,” the singer wrote.

A day later, on July 1, Michaels took to Instagram again to share a more detailed update about what is going on with his health. “[I] can’t thank enough Nashville’s incredible and determined medical staff who helped me as you can see with several IV sites to run tests & administer fluids. I’m determined to try to rock Jacksonville & return for a Nashville show someday soon.”

Allow Michaels has not revealed what the specific health issue is, People reports that Michael has lived with type 1 diabetes since the age of 6. And in 2010, he survived a brain hemorrhage.

Sadly Michaels’s health issues didn’t stop there. A year after the brain hemorrhage occurred, he suffered a mini-stroke which lead to a surgery that would repair a hole in his heart.

Bret Michaels made good on his promise to perform in Jacksonville, Florida. As First Coast News reported, although it was an abbreviated set, Poison rocked the stage as the rain fell on their adoring fans on July 2.

On Twitter, Michaels wrote, “In light of my recent medical situation and treatment, I’m very excited to try to attempt to bring all the positive energy, vocals and give you all that I have on stage tonight. I promise, as always, to do the best I can and to give you all I got.”

However, in order to save his energy for the performance, Michael chose to forego the bans meet and greet beforehand. “Doctors have highly recommended that I continue to rest and try to save all the energy I can for the show. Therefore I will not be able to be at the meet and greet this evening.”

“I encourage you to go see the other guys and enjoy the meet and greet,” Michaels continued. “Thank you for all your well wishes and understanding. Florida, you know I love you.”

Michaels is a dad to two daughters, 12-year-old Raine and 7-year-old Jorja Bleu. In a 2020 interview with Parade, Michaels admitted that he truly believed it was his children and their mother Kristi, who saved his life during his past health scares.

“The night I had my brain hemorrhage, my two daughters and Kristi truthfully saved my life. That’s the God’s honest truth. When it all hit the fan, when it came to that moment that I needed to react, my family rallied behind me, and as a father, I didn’t want them to wake up in the morning and see me collapsed on the floor,” he said at the time.

Michaels admitted that his girls have him wrapped around their fingers. “Daughters are good — they key it up right on cue and I’m a sucker and I give them whatever gifts necessary,” he joked when explaining how hard it is to leave them when he goes on tour.

“I hope that my legacy is this,” Michael said in 2020 when asked how he wants to be remembered. “I’m a fighter, a survivor and I rocked the world. That would be it.”
