Brittany Robinson’s father was in the holiday mood when he began decorating for Christmas. His mood sunk, though, when he found a bag under the porch while wiring the Christmas lights.
The Pennsylvania man found a bag hidden in the crawlspace under his home with a dead newborn baby wrapped in a black T-shirt, according to WTAE.
The shocked father was even more devastated when he learned it was his own 23-year-old daughter who put the baby there. Robinson told police the baby boy was not breathing and did not have a pulse when she gave birth to him at home on Friday.
She said she cleaned her son off, wrapped him in a shirt and placed him inside a dresser on the porch. She went back to work on Saturday with her dead son still stuffed inside the dresser, telling police she checked on him again later in the day and moved him into the crawlspace when she found he was still not breathing.
Her father, who said he did not know his daughter was pregnant, found the dead newborn on Sunday.
WPXI reports the woman gave birth to a healthy 7-pound, 19-inch baby boy in the bathtub. Lt. Eric Hermick of the Pennsylvania State Police said:
“There was no question that the baby was born inside that house, the baby was killed inside that house and was concealed inside that house.”
Robinson claimed she didn’t even know she was pregnant, but police found evidence showing she knew she had a baby on the way. The woman made an online purchase for a type of abortion pill when she was seven months pregnant but never used it and had blood work done by a doctor two weeks ago.
Hermick said:
“I believe she just didn’t want to have this baby and she found a means to get rid of it. People want babies and can’t have them. People who have babies discard them, it’s inappropriate.
Robinson, who has an 8-year-old daughter she does not have custody of, was arrested and charged with criminal homicide.
The mother was also charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with evidence, and concealing the death of a child, in addition to the homicide charge. She was denied bail.
The cause of death has not been revealed, but police said the baby did not suffer any trauma.
