Brian Laundrie’s Family Slams Jeopardy! After They Used Him as the Subject for a Twisted Question

On November 15, Brian Laundrie’s family spoke out in disgust, slamming the legendary game show known as Jeopardy!

As Mamas Uncut has previously revealed, Brian Laundrie ended his own life in 2021 after admittedly killing his fiancé Gabby Petito while they were traveling the continental US in a white modified van. Laundrie’s body was discovered with a gunshot wound to the head.

A wet bag with a note that contained his confession was also found nearby. Jeopardy! used Brian’s suicide story as a question on their show.

“In 2021 fugitive Brian Laundrie ended his days in FLA.’s Myakkahatchee Creek area, home to these long and toothy critters,” Jeopardy! asked its contestants. The answer? “What are alligators?”

In a statement shared with TMZ, the Laundrie family attorney, Steven Bertolino, said, “The entire Laundrie family is appalled and concurs with all of the comments on social media on how distasteful this was. I believe an apology is due.”

And while many people have cursed the Laundrie name for the last year, people agreed with Brian’s family, admitting the question was in bad taste. Many said it made them feel like the show was making light of Gabby’s murder. Gabby’s family has yet to make a statement about the gameshow situation.

As Mamas Uncut reported just last month, more than one year after Gabby Petito was murdered by her boyfriend Brian Laundrie while they traveled across the continental US, a new video had been shared with the public.

According to Fox News, the video is reportedly the last time she was seen in public alive. The video was captured by the surveillance cameras at a Whole Foods store in Wyoming on August 27, 2021.

Fox News reports that the video shows Petito’s white Ford van pulling into the grocery store parking lot after leaving the Merry Piglets Tex-Mex restaurant nearby. Reports suggest that Laundrie allegedly got into an argument with three women who worked at the restaurant. 

Witnesses told Fox News that Laundrie was seen leaving and entering the restaurant four times before Petito apologized for Laundrie. While at the grocery store, Petito is seen grabbing cheese and putting it in a tote bag before the couple leaves the store and heads back into their van. 

Finally, the video shows the van pulling onto Highway 89, Fox News reports. Highway 89 is the road that leads to the Bridger-Teton National Forest campsite.

This is the campsite where Petito’s body was discovered three weeks later in September 2021.

As Mamas Uncut previously reported, roughly a month later, Brian Laundrie’s body would be discovered in a nearby park where he and Petito lived with his parents in Florida before they set off on their adventure. In his suicide note, Laundrie admitted to killing Petito.

Laundrie wrote, in part, that he thought he was being “merciful” when he claimed the life of the 22-year-old aspiring travel blogger. He also claimed that he took her life out of “shock” after she fell in a river and gravely injured herself.

“She had a small bump on her forehead that eventually got larger. Her feet hurt, her wrist hurt but she was freezing, shaking violently, while carrying her she continually made sounds of pain, laying next to her she said little lapsing between violent shakes, gasping in pain, begging for an end to her pain. …  I see now all the mistakes I made. I panicked. I was in shock.”

In his note, Laundrie wrote that they were “rushing back to our car trying to cross the streams of spread creek before it got too dark to see, [too] cold. I hear a splash and a scream. I could barely see, I couldn’t find her for a moment, shouted her name. I found her breathing heavily gasping my name, she was freezing cold. We had just came from the blazing hot National Parks in Utah.”

“The temperature had dropped to freezing and she was soaking wet,” Laundrie continued to write. “I carried her as far as I could down the stream towards the car, stumbling exhausted in shock, when my knees buckled and knew I couldn’t safely carry her. I started a fire and spooned her as close to the heat, she was so thin, had already been freezing too long.” 

“I couldn’t at the time realize that I should’ve started a fire first but I wanted her out of the cold back to the car. From where I started the fire, I had no idea how far the car might be. Only knew it was across the creek. When I pulled Gabby out of the water she couldn’t tell me what hurt. She had a small bump on her forehead that eventually got larger. Her feet hurt, her wrist hurt but she was freezing, shaking violently, while carrying her she continually made sounds of pain, laying next to her she said little lapsing between violent shakes, gasping in pain, begging for an end to her pain. She would fall asleep and I would shake her awake fearing she shouldn’t close her eyes if she had a concussion.”

The coroner in charge of Gabby Petito’s autopsy revealed her cause of death as manual strangulation. Laundrie died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A civil suit brought by Petito’s family claims that Laundrie took Petito’s life on the night of August 27, the same day the above video was captured. By September 1, Laundrie arrived home to Florida with the white van.
