A 13-year-old boy murdered a 14-year-old girl in Ohio after the girl told him she was pregnant and he became afraid that he was the father.
Sylvia McGee, an eighth-grader, was shot and killed in March; however, it was revealed that she was not pregnant after an autopsy was conducted.

The boy, whose name has not been made public due to his age, pleaded guilty in juvenile court, according to Stark County Prosecutor Michelle Cordova.
Cordova told reporters that she believed the crime was a result of the boy believing McGee was pregnant with his child. “There is no evidence of any other reason for this,” she told the Canton Repository.

“It’s still not closure,” Carlina Hanley, McGee’s great aunt, told the paper. “[He] should have just admitted it from the beginning. She didn’t deserve that… she wasn’t that type of kid. She was upbeat and funny. I just can’t believe that he did that.”
“I knew that she could always excel in life, in anything that she chose to do,” her great aunt continued. “She wanted everybody to get along. She wanted everybody to just be friends – that’s just the type of personality she had.”
“[She] was always funny, smiling, nothing ever dragged her down, not one thing,” Tabitha McCarthy, a friend of McGee’s, told local station WKYC.
The boy responsible for the crime will remain in youth prison until he is 21. After that, he will have to undergo a psych evaluation. If it’s deemed he’s a threat, he could face a life sentence in an adult prison.
