Ever since Emma Roberts gave birth to her son, Rhodes, on December 27, 2020, she has done an incredible job of keeping him out of the spotlight by not posting photos of his face on social media. And for the past two years, her mother, Kelly Cunningham, has abided by that rule – that is, until recently.
In an Instagram post shared on February 3, Cunningham shared a front-facing photo of Rhodes – who celebrated his second birthday a few months ago. While you only see one-half of his face, it was enough for Roberts to scold her mother for not asking her before posting it – don’t worry, they still love each other.
“When your mom posts your sons face without asking but you love them both so whatever ????,” wrote Emma Roberts on her Instagram story, sharing the photo with her 19.2 million followers. Cunningham responded to her story by reposting it onto her account, writing ‘The battle continues!!’ in the caption.

The funny mother-daughter exchange is something Roberts should’ve expected at some point because it’s not the first time she ‘spilled beans’ about her daughter’s personal life. In fact, she was the one who accidentally confirmed Roberts’ pregnancy back in 2020 – again, without her daughter’s permission.
Kelly Cunningham had seen a tabloid talking about the pregnancy and, while it was true, it was nothing more than a rumor at that point in time as it hadn’t been confirmed by Emma yet – Cunningham didn’t know that. Fans started messaging Cunningham about the pregnancy and that’s when she confirmed it.
“I was keeping my pregnancy pretty low-key, but unfortunately my mother has Instagram. Mothers and Instagram, it’s a bad combination,” said Roberts in an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!. She was on a plane when her friends started messaging her screenshots of what her mother was saying to her fans.
Now, her mother is spilling the beans again and fans are finally getting their first good look at her son’s face – and he’s adorable! Roberts shares her son with Garrett Hedlund, who she started dating in March 2019. They announced their split in January 2022, just a few weeks after celebrating his first birthday.
Emma Roberts Celebrates Her 32nd Birthday
Speaking of birthdays, Emma Roberts celebrated her 32nd birthday on February 10th and she celebrated it with an Instagram post, tagging Kate Spade New York – “the best way to spend my birthday,” she wrote in the caption. Dozens of friends and colleagues took to the comments to wish her a happy birthday.
Her birthday comes just a few days after she promoted her Spring 2023 campaign for Saks Fifth Avenue. The spring collection features a lot of colors, pastels, and pieces that are fun to mix and match. She also celebrated the start of the coveted New York Fashion Week on Wednesday with a party at The Aman.
And while Roberts doesn’t share photos of her son’s face, she does share photos of him with his face hidden – doing so just a few days when she enjoyed a park day with her little nugget. She also shared a photo of him looking out the window on his birthday, calling him her ‘angel boy’ as they sat on the couch.

Her mother also shares photos of Rhodes often – some show a little more face than others – including a photo of him playing in a gigantic puddle on January 5th. “Your such a gift from the heavens above. You break my heart everyday with your laugh and love you give to us all,” she wrote in a birthday post.
