Robert De Niro Shares First Photo of His New Baby

During a recent sit-down interview with ET Canada, Robert De Niro shared some exciting and shocking news with his fanbase. The interviewer brought up the fact that he has six children, but De Niro was quick to correct them. “Seven, actually. I just had a baby,” he told the outlet.

And now he’s sharing the baby girl’s name and the first photo of the adorable tot. While on CBS This Morning, De Niro told Gayle King that he and Chen welcomed their daughter into the world about a month ago on April 6th. They named their little one Gia Virginia Chen-De Niro.

The mother is rumored to be his current girlfriend, Tiffany Chen. The couple originally met in 2015, but didn’t start dating until 2021 – following his breakup with ex-wife Grace Hightower. The newborn is De Niro’s seventh child, but his first with Chen – he shares six other children with three different women.

The day after his exciting news went viral, De Niro was spotted at the New York premiere of his new film About My Father and mentioned his newborn in an interview with Extra. “I’m okay with it,” he said when asked if he was excited. “I’m good with it,” he continued – adding that being a father ‘never gets easier.’

Two of his About My Father castmates – Sebastian Maniscalco and Kim Cattrall – were quick to congratulate the 79-year-old actor. “It’s great. I found out today just like everybody else. He’s a very soft-spoken individual who loves to spend time with his family and I’m happy for him,” Maniscalco said. 

“God bless him. His significant other, Tiffany is such a beautiful woman. She was gorgeous and sweet, and I’m happy for both of them,” Catrall added. Despite filming together with Robert De Niro, neither of his co-stars had any idea that he was expecting a baby – adding that it came as a complete surprise to most. 

On Wednesday (May 10), the newborn was seen for the first time with Chen holding the baby close to her chest while enjoying a walk in the New York City sunshine. The baby was wearing a pink onesie and had a white blanket – while it’s the baby’s first appearance, we still don’t know the baby’s gender and name. 

In addition to his latest baby, Robert De Niro shares two children – Raphael and Drena – with ex-wife Diahnne Abbott, twin sons – Julian and Aaron – with ex-girlfriend Toukie Smith, and two children – Elliot and Helen – with ex-wife Grace Hightower. It has been more than a decade since his last child was born.

Robert De Niro Explains His Role as a Father

Robert De Niro has long been touted as a good father who enjoys spending quality time with his children. In his interview with ET Canada, which was published on May 8, De Niro explained how he believes in ‘being loving with his kids,’ though he admits he isn’t shy about being stern with them when necessary. 

“I mean, there’s no way around it with kids. I don’t like to have to lay down the law and stuff like that. But, [sometimes] you just have no choice,” he said of his role as a father with seven children. “You always want to do the right thing by the children and give them the benefit of the doubt but sometimes you can’t.”

He went on to explain how he gets into disagreements with his children from time to time and doesn’t necessarily consider himself a ‘cool dad.’ At the same time, his children are respectful – though he admits to arguing with his 11-year-old daughter, Helen. “I adore her, but, you know,” he told ET Canada.
