When the holidays arrive, it’s very easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of it all. Between making sure we have time to buy presents, wrap presents, decorate the tree, and bake cookies for Santa, it’s not hard to forget the true meaning of Christmas.
However, one little boy’s letter to Santa Claus is helping the world remember that all those presents we buy and get are not what is important. According to SafeHaven of Tarrant County, Blake is a 7-year-old boy who moved into one of the shelters with his mom.
Boy Asks Santa Claus for a Good Dad After He and Mom Escape to a Domestic Violence Shelter
On the Facebook page, the shelter said it was Blake’s mom who found his letter to Santa in his backpack. SafeHaven of Tarrant County then shared an image of the letter to their page.
It reads:
“Dear Santa,
We had to leave our house. Dad was mad. We had to do all the chores. Dad got everything he wanted. Mom said it was time to leave and she would take us to a safer place where we don’t have to be scared.
I’m still nervous. I don’t want to talk to the other kids. Are you going to come this Christmas? We don’t have any of our stuff here. Can you bring some chapter books, a dictionary, a compass, and a watch? I also want a very very very good dad. Can you do that too?
Love, Blake”
Thankfully, Blake and his mom are safe now. And in a statement to People, Micah Thompson, the director of marketing at SafeHaven of Tarrant County, said the mom gave them permission to share the letter:
“Blake and his mom obviously had no idea how much attention this letter would receive. We’ve stayed in contact with his mom throughout the last 24 hours, and she made Blake aware. I don’t think he fully understands because of his age, but he thinks it’s pretty cool!”
According to the organization, Blake will be receiving “exactly what he asked for from Santa.” And it’s all “thanks to the donations through Santa’s Sack.”

However, because SafeHaven currently has 117 women and children needing shelter this holiday season, they are still in need of monetary donations “to make sure they have a safe place to stay throughout December.”
