Melissa Joan Hart is calling out Candace Cameron Bure nearly 10 months after the latter made a controversial comment about wanting to keep ‘traditional marriage’ at the core of her projects with the Great American Family TV network – ultimately highlighting her devotion to Christian faith and religion.
Hart found it funny that someone so religious once played the part of a satanic witch on TV – referring to Bure’s role as Millie in the fifth season of Boy Meets World. She guest starred in Episode 5 (titled ‘Witches of Pennbrook’) and played Jack Hunter’s spooky new girlfriend who was caught practicing witchcraft.
It was an episode that Melissa Joan Hart knows far too well – mainly because she guest starred in that same episode as her famous Sabrina character from the hit show Sabrina the Teenage Witch. It was a funny episode – and is still a funny episode – but it’s also a little awkward given Bure’s recent comments.

So, why is this getting brought up now? Well, Melissa Joan Hart recently caught up with Will Friedle, Rider Strong, and Danielle Fishel on their ‘Pod Meets World’ podcast – a podcast where three of the former stars of Boy Meets World re-watch old episodes with guests who were a part of the show, as well.
During the podcast, Melissa discusses how people in bible study always tell her how they weren’t allowed to watch Sabrina the Teenage Witch ‘because it was about witchcraft.’ She found it funny because then you have people like Candace Cameron Bure, who is a ‘devout Christian,’ playing a satanic witch on TV.
For those who have never seen the episode, Millie (Bure’s character) moves into an apartment on the same floor as the three roommates – Eric, Jack, and Shawn. Millie starts dating Jack because she wants to have access to their balcony, that way she can perform spells – which Jack catches her doing one day.
Millie and her witch friends end up trying to sacrifice Jack so she can take ownership of the apartment, but Eric shuts down her idea by reciting a spell from a ‘Witchcraft for Dummies’ book. As for Melissa’s character (Sabrina), she ends up going out on a date with Eric by the end of the iconic episode.
What Did Candace Cameron Bure Say in November?
Candace Cameron Bure has always been big on faith and Christianity, which was highlighted when she became an executive at the Great American Family TV network – officially leaving Hallmark Media, where she had worked for more than 13 years. At the time, she was excited to join a faith-filled TV network.
“I’m very excited to develop heartwarming family and faith-filled programming and make the kind of stories my family and I love to watch,” she said in April, when her role with GAF was announced. While that comment was harmless, she made things worse nearly seven months later in a separate comment.
“I think that Great American Family will keep traditional marriage at the core,” she said – announcing her plans to create storylines that feature a husband and wife, as opposed to storylines that include the LGBTQIA+ community. Her comment was met with an overwhelming amount of backlash and criticism.
