“The timing of it was miraculous,” Kourtney explained after admitting that the issue happened all of a sudden. “That saved everything.”
Kourtney Kardashian Barker is opening up about the traumatizing fetal surgery she had to undergo last summer. During the first episode of the fifth season of her family’s new reality show The Kardashians, Kourtney said she was finally ready to open up about the scary experience that left her on bed rest with a hole in her amniotic sac.
“I just feel so grateful how everything played out and for doctors who really helped make the best decisions that really saved our baby,” she said in a confessional.
As Kourtney explained, her pregnancy took a scary turn last summer when she underwent a scan that was performed in her home.
At that point, Travis, who was preparing to embark on another leg of his Blink-182 tour, was with her.
The couple planned the scan at home so that all of their children could see the baby prior to Kourtney giving birth.
“The doctor who will come to the house to do the scan is a high-risk doctor, who is really detailed and thorough at looking for everything,” Kourtney explained.
“And something caught his eye where he wanted me to see a couple of specialists and I had to go in for fetal surgery where they do surgery on the baby, which was terrifying.”
Before Kourtney and their baby were brought in for surgery, Travis had to leave for a show. She admitted how “stressful” the night before the surgery was because she was alone.
Kourtney explained that her mom Kris was the one who took her to the hospital as Travis managed to get a flight home to be with his wife and unborn child. Heartbreakingly, the WIFI on Travis’s flight was broken and he was in the dark the whole time they were in surgery.
“I have some super power that in emergency situations I get really calm,” the mom revealed, adding that she broke down after everything was said and done.
For the rest of Kourtney’s pregnancy, she was put on bed rest. She explained that a hole was left in the amniotic sac following the surgery.
Her doctor explained that there was nothing she did wrong and that it wasn’t age related. “It was just a super rare thing that happened.”
“After this happened, God’s got this. We’re good,” Kourtney shared. “This is a miracle and we’re just gonna be super positive.”
