A mom took to Reddit asking if she should sue her doctor because the doctor reportedly sewed her vagina shut after she had given birth. And she allegedly has proof.
While the new mom didn’t share the personal photo online, the Reddit user wrote that she had her first child six weeks and three days ago. She also shared that while birthing her first child, she “tore and had to get stitches.”
New Mom Wonders If She Should Sue Doctor After Her Vagina Was Stitched Shut
She continued, “The doctor on call didn’t tell me how many stitches I got, where he put them or even what type of tear I had. I had my six weeks check up Monday and when I finally get a room, I realize my doctor didn’t have any notes or know anything about my delivery. She had to ask me if I got stitches and if the doctor on call gave me any information about them.”
The new mom went on to tell her doctor that she was so “out of it” after birthing her son that she “couldn’t even hold him.” It was then, the mom wrote, that her doctor’s face changed as she began examining her to make sure everything was healing properly. The doctor told her that the “stitches caused [her vagina] to heal in a weird way.”
“She then draws the opening to my vagina and shades out the middle of the hole. To put it in a better perspective, my vagina looks like the number 8, but the two holes are smaller and the line in the middle is way thicker. I have two mini holes that not even a pen tip could fit into! She tells me I have to have surgery because the problem isn’t going to resolve itself.”
She continued, ‘I already had a traumatic time healing from the birthing process and I now have to go back through what traumatized me to begin with. Would I be able to sue the doctor?”
Another Redditor who said he is a surgeon commented on the mom’s post saying, “Surgeon here: while it’s possible for things to heal how you described (it’s called a stricture) if they actually sutured your vagina shut that’s malpractice. … If I did anything similar to this to a patient though, I would expect to be sued.”
And one person suggested that she speak to an actual lawyer to get the answers she’s looking for. “Start lining up a few consults with medical malpractice lawyers. Only they can help you determine if you have a case.”
Overall, many of the commenters who reached out to the mom believed that it is both worth fighting for and doing the reconstructive surgery.
