There’s definitely something to the idea that beauty begins on the inside. If you’re not eating well, your skin is the first place it will show. If you want a clear, radiant complexion, shiny hair, and strong nails, you have to start with what you’re putting into your body. Here are are some tips.

Try to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables every day. Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals, pollution, and sunlight can cause wrinkling and age spots. Eat a rainbow of colorful fruit and vegetables to get maximum benefits.

Eat some healthy fats. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats (the types found in avocados, oily fish, nuts, and seeds) provide essential fatty acids that act as a natural moisturizer for your skin. This helps to keep it supple and improves elasticity. These fats also provide a healthy dose of vitamin E which will help protect against free radical damage.

Cut down on the amount of processed food you are having. When you eat processed food, you don’t get the nutrients your body needs to function efficiently. This leaves you less healthy, and it shows in your skin. If your skin cells aren’t properly nourished, you will suffer from breakouts and redness.

Try to incorporate more dark leafy greens into your diet, such as spinach, kale, and watercress. They are one of the top sources of beta carotene, a powerful antioxidant that helps repair and renew your skin to give it a youthful glow.
