“Dude, well done.” That’s what one commenter said to a teen dad who is publicly asking for help after the mother of his child left him and his parents disowned him.
According to the Reddit user, he was 17 when he met the mother of his future child at a party. “She got pregnant pretty soon after we started dating and we decided that we’d just scrape some money together and figure things out along the way,” he wrote.
He also admitted that because his parents didn’t know his pregnant girlfriend existed, he “wasn’t able to be there when my daughter was born.” He kept his family a secret from his own parents for the first month after she was born.
“I’d attend school during the day and told them I was “tutoring” for a few hours afterward when in reality I was sneaking over to my ex’s house to see my kid. Sometimes my ex would leave and ask me to stay and watch our daughter, so I had no choice but to look after her while she went out and did whatever for hours. I could pass it off the first few times as just odd tutoring hours but when it became a regular thing my parents got suspicious. They sat at the school one afternoon and followed me to her house, even calling to ask when I’d be home.”
When they confronted him and he told them the truth, his parents “rightfully lost their sh*t.” After kicking him out, they gave him an ultimatum; “leave my ex and daughter and move in with my aunt states away or stay with my ex and be cut off. I chose to stay with my ex and true to their word, my parents went completely NC with me and haven’t spoken to me since.”
Teen Dad Reaches Out for Advice After the Mother of His Daughter Left Them and His Family Disowns Him
That’s when the teen got his life together the best he could. He got an apartment, a part-time job, stopped using drugs, and graduated high school. Sadly, when he learned the mother of his child was still using, their relationship starting going downhill. She had broken their promise to each other to stay sober and clean for their daughter.
“I realized I couldn’t trust her when I found the baggies hidden in her drawer and started to understand what she meant when she said she was ‘going out.’ We got into a nasty argument and I ended up taking my daughter to a friend’s house where we camped out for a few days. When I got back to the apartment, my roommate informed me that my ex had left. It’s been months and I still haven’t seen or heard from her.”
Now, the teen dad feels like a burden on his roommate but he can’t afford to move out on his own and give his daughter what she needs although he managed to land a full-time job. Now he’s at a crossroads; “I don’t know whether I should try and patch things up with my parents or find some way to get in contact with my ex but I feel like if I don’t do something soon I might have a mental breakdown.”

And after the support he got from several commenters via Reddit, the dad started seeing things with a clear head. Now, he’s applying for sole custody of his daughter and with some convincing, is working on his relationship with his parents and focusing on what is best for his little girl.
