Authorities are revealing the latest break in the recovery mission for actress Naya Rivera. Rivera is best known for her role as Santana Lopez in the hit sitcom known as Glee.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Rivera and her 4-year-old son Josey rented a pontoon boat to set sail on Lake Piru in Ventura County, California around 1:00 p.m. on July 8. Around 4:00, it was reported that staff members went looking for the boat after Rivera failed to return the rental on time.
It was then that a man found Josey alone in the boat sleeping. Rivera was nowhere to be found.
As surveillance footage released by the Ventura County Police Department showed, Rivera and Josey could be seen getting out of her G-Wagon near the marina. After that, other security footage shows the mother-and-son pair staying on the north side of the lake.
However, Rivera’s reported death remains a mystery. According to information gathered by authorities with the help of her young son, Rivera jumped off the boat for a swim but never surfaced. Police believe Rivera’s death to be an unfortunate accident, adding that there is no indication of foul play or evidence that Rivera took her own life.
On July 13, Ventura Police revealed that a body has been recovered near the area of the lake where Naya Rivera was last seen.
During a press conference, authorities are “confident” that the body was Rivera’s. TMZ also reported that their police source has confirmed the news it was the actress who was found. According to Twitter, members of the Glee cast gathered at the lake today to pay their respects.
As Twitter also pointed out, July 13 is the seventh anniversary of Cory Monteith’s passing as well. Monteith played Finn Hudson alongside Rivera. Rivera was just 33 years old.
Josey has since been reunited with his father Ryan Dorsey who, along with Rivera’s parents, has also been seen in the area helping try to find the beloved actress. Our thoughts and prayers are with her son, family, and friends during this difficult time.
