Missing Dog That Jumped from Moving Car on S.C. Highway Is Found Alive in Miami

A missing dog crossed state lines in an unlikely journey before being found almost two weeks later. On July 15, Tim Whitfield wrote on Facebook that his elderly mother’s pet had jumped from her car window on a highway just outside of Charleston, South Carolina in West Ashley.

Whitfield explained that the family got her the dog, named Belle, after his 90-year-old mom’s previous pet of 16 years died three months prior. The family offered a reward of $2,000 for the lost girl.

“Please, if you find her, call me … or contact me here on FB,” the Whitfield wrote.

“I hate to keep asking for favors, but tonight, my Mom’s little dog jumped out of the rear window of the car somewhere between Hwy 7 and 17S intersection and where 17 turns into two lanes,” the concerned relative wrote at the time.

“Please, if you find her, call me … or contact me here on FB.”

Five days into the search, Whitfield thanked everyone for their efforts to help find the missing dog.

“Just another big THANK YOU to everyone that has participated on every level imaginable in helping to find my [90-year-old] mother’s dog, Belle,” Whitfield wrote in an update. “Never in my life would I have expected such an outpouring of love, care and concern! Mom is dealing with this, but still heartbroken…please pray for her.”

Then on Sunday, 11 days after the dog went missing, the family confirmed that Belle had been found all the way in Miami. Miami! Whitfield called it a “miracle.”

“I will never, ever be able to thank each of you enough for your loving care, from people I’ve never met to the best of friends, for your endearing love and prayers!!” Whitfield continued. “It will never be forgotten…and please use our circumstance to remind you that God watches over everything, no matter how small! According to a local ABC affiliate, the heroes who picked up Belle found the pup in traffic while traveling through Charleston toward Miami.

The helpful travelers stopped and pick up the dog so it wouldn’t be hit by a vehicle, the rescuers then found the social media posts searching for Belle and contacted the pup’s family with the good news.

Belle is happy back at home with her owner who seemed delighted to be reunited with her owner. We’re not sure why the family who found Belle took her all the way home to Florida with them, but we’re certainly glad that this little dog is back at home in South Carolina.
