Cameron Diaz Talks Sleeping Arrangements and Retirement

As Cameron Diaz prepares to celebrate her ninth wedding anniversary to Benji Madden, she’s admitting how she wishes the pair lived together.

According to Diaz, she wishes it was more socially acceptable for husbands and wives to at least have separate bedrooms, but she goes as far as she wishes they had separate houses.

The discussion came up after the hosts of the podcast talked about their husbands’ loud snoring.

“We should normalize separate bedrooms,” Diaz said on a recent episode of the Lipstick on the Rim podcast. “I would literally, like, I have my house, you have yours, we have the family house in the middle. I will go and sleep in my room, you go sleep in your room. I’m fine.”

But you also can’t forget the room in the middle for “intimacy” purposes. “And we have the bedroom in the middle that we can convene in for, you know, our relations.”

It’s been three years since the couple welcomed their only child into the world, Raddix. And because Diaz and Madden prefer to keep their family life as private as possible, it’s unclear if they are considering having another child.

Despite Cameron Diaz‘s choice to retire at what seemed to be the height of her career — the star wouldn’t have it any other way.

During a 2020 episode of In Goop Health: The Sessions, Cameron explained to Gwyneth Paltrow that because she gave her everything to her career, she never made “any space for [her] personal life.”

“I just decided that I wanted different things out of my life. I had gone so hard for so long, working, making films and it’s such a grind,” she said.

“When you’re making a movie—it’s a perfect excuse—they own you. You’re there for 12 hours a day for months on end and you have no time for anything else.”

Cameron also revealed how life in the spotlight was draining, a fact Gwyneth could “understand.”

“It’s so intense to work at that level and be that public and put yourself out there. There’s a lot of energy coming at you at all times when you’re really visible as an actor and doing press and putting yourself out there,” she shared, adding how she is particularly “sensitive” to the “energies” of other people.

But Cameron revealed that when she turned 40, she decided to discover herself and become “self-sufficient” again, as she had been catered to so much in her career.

When Gwyneth asked Cameron what it felt like to leave that past behind, she responded, “Like peace. A peace in my soul because I was finally taking care of myself.”

“I broke that mirror about a thousand times when he put it up to me. I was like, ‘I hate you… don’t show me that,’ and he was like, ‘Look, b***h. Look’,” she laughed. “Thank God for him.”

The two married in 2015 and live a quiet life but that doesn’t mean Diaz skimps on bragging over her 7-month-old daughter, Raddix Madden. Recently, she told Jimmy Fallon that she’s overjoyed to live in a “little bubble” with her baby amid the pandemic. “Before my baby was an excuse to stay home,” she said. “Now I don’t have to make that excuse. It’s just what it is, and I get to be with her.”

Today, Diaz is celebrating her 51st birthday and while both she and Benji like to keep it lowkey and offline, there is one social media tradition Benji won’t give up. “I’m off line mostly these days, just working, painting, making things and doing family life, but I have grown to like my little tradition of coming back on special occasions to show love to my Queen- so today, it’s a very Happy Birthday to my beautiful wife, best friend, best partner in everything, ride or die, greatest Mom to our little girl, @Avaline wine boss, family chef, advisor, collaborator and everything else,” wrote.

“You do it all ❤️So grateful to have our family and I am one lucky man – I know that seems obvious but it really is nice to say it out loud now and then when you’re feeling it ❤️ ???? I love you •forever •always •yours •true love ❤️ Happy Birthday Cameron ❤️????.”
