Following Nickayla Rivera‘s response to those who have a problem with her helping raise her nephew alongside her late sister’s ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey is speaking out as well. As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Nickayla and Dorsey were spotted together at a Target after rumors suggested that they moved in together.
Some reports suggested that Naya Rivera‘s sister and her ex-husband may be in a relationship. But as Nickayla revealed in her statement, her only priority is to make sure Naya and Ryan’s 5-year-old son Josey has everything he needs.
“In the darkest time of my life, the only thing that is important is my friend and family. Showing up for my nephew, even though I can’t show up for myself. I’m not concerned with the way things look because no one can see each agonizing moment we all endure. What matters most I’ve learned is to show compassion, not to judge others, and never take a moment of life for granted. I hope you all can do the same.”
Ryan Dorsey Responds to Tabloid Rumors of His Relationship With Naya Rivera’s Sister
Shortly after Nickayla made her statement, Ryan Dorsey followed suit. In a lengthy Instagram video, Dorsey called the rumors “absurd,” adding that he couldn’t even believe he was responding to this type of “nonsense,” before calling the rumors “ill-advised, illogical, [and] misinformed.”
“I usually don’t read comments on my own stuff because I just know how there can be 50 good things said and five negative ones and somehow, as humans, we get those five negative ones stuck in our heads. But it was brought to my attention that there’s a lot of people that have a lot to say and have opinions on a family’s tragic situation.”
As Dorsey continued, the father opened up about how Josey has handled everything that he has been through. “I have to tell him, ‘She’s an angel now and she’s with God and she’s in heaven,’ and he says, ‘I wanna go there, how do I get there?’ I wouldn’t wish that upon any of your ears to have to hear that, hear those words come out of the sweetest soul you know.”
He went on to say, “Then going to a funeral, trying to explain that to an innocent child what a funeral is way before they should ever even have to think about or deal with any of that.” And as far as addressing the rumors that surround his relationship with Naya’s younger sister, Nickayla is nothing but family to him and Josey.
“She’s now the closet thing that he has to a mom,” Dorsey said while talking about Nickayla and why they made the decision to move in together. “I wouldn’t want any of you to ever have to go through that, and to have to let him get what he wants, what he asks for, and what he needs right now, which is his family.”
Nonetheless, Ryan Dorsey said while this is what is best for Josey right now, their living situation is temporary. “After all he’s had to go through, how could you deny him that? And because of what? Because what some strangers might think or say or spew some hatred based on some ill-advised, illogical, misinformed tabloid?”
“To have a young woman who is his blood, his Titi, who’s willing to put her life on hold and sacrifice things, uproot her situation for the betterment of your child, so when you put your child to bed, you don’t have to be alone with your thoughts, and you don’t have to be sad every day and night wondering when does it get better. At least you have someone there with you to talk to or just sit in silence and be sad with. You don’t have to deal with it completely alone.”

Naya Rivera passed away on July 8 while she was sailing on a pontoon boat she rented with her son. While it is unclear exactly what happened, it is believed that Naya and Josey had jumped off the boat and into the water to go for a swim when something went awry. While Naya was able to get her son back onto the boat, she could not save herself.
