While Celebrating His Son’s Sixth Birthday, Ryan Murphy Reflects on How His Little Boy Beat Childhood Cancer

In 2016, when creator Ryan Murphy’s son Ford was just 18 months old, he was diagnosed with neuroblastoma. According to the Mayo Clinic, “neuroblastoma is a cancer that develops from immature nerve cells found in several areas of the body.” It most often occurs in infants and young children.

In Ford’s case, he had to undergo several rounds of procedures to battle the cancer. In the end, thankfully, Ford won, People reports.

Now, Murphy will forever look at his now 6-year-old son as his little warrior. According to People, who captured Murphy’s birthday message to his son before he deleted it, the proud father wrote, “Much love and respect to our warrior Ford Theodore Miller Murphy, who battled neuroblastoma cancer at 18 months and survived and thrived and today celebrated his SIXTH birthday.”

He went on to write how thankful he and his husband, David Miller, are for all the work Ford’s nurses and doctors put into saving his life. “David and I are so grateful to Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and all the doctors and helpers who continue to love and care for Ford.”

“There is in fact a wing with Ford’s name on it to honor his spirit and all the children who are still in the fight. Ford loves jungle animals…thus the cheetah sleeping bag. We love you, Fordie.”

It wasn’t until two years after Ford’s successful fight that Ryan and David first opened up about their son’s cancer battle. It was that same year, in 2018, that the couple donated $10 million to the hospital to further show their gratitude, according to People.

Ford, or Fordie as his dads affectionately call him, is Ryan Murphy and David’s middle children. They are also the proud parents of 7-year-old Logan and Griffin, who they welcomed into the world in September of this year. Happy Birthday, Ford!
