Young Father of Newborn Twins Shot in Kentucky, Dies in the Same Hospital Where Twins Were Born

A new father of premature twins was shot and killed last week in Smoketown, Kentucky. Tyrese Garvin, 20, was walking around the neighborhood and was attacked randomly by a group of local teenagers, as reported by The Courier-Journal. According to Christopher 2X, a community activist, Garvin had just come from visiting his twins, a boy and a girl, at the University of Louisville Hospital.

The family made the difficult decision to take Garvin off of life support in the same hospital where his twins had been born prematurely one week earlier. Before taking him off of life support, the twins mother brought them from the maternity ward to the ICU so they could lay down next to their father for a few precious moments.

“He was just a random choice that these teenagers chose to shoot,” 2X told The Courier-Journal. “This kid was loving life, and there’s no reason for him to be shot like that.”

The local police have arrested three teenagers, ages 14-17, who are allegedly responsible for the crime.

The family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover the costs of the funeral and medical bills. You can make a donation here.

Additionally, Balling for a Cause, a community group that helps get at-risk kids off the streets, is collecting baby clothes, toys and more that will be donated to the mother of Garvin’s twins. Donated items can be dropped off or sent to the Chestnut Street Family YMCA
