Barack Obama Opens up About Quarantining with His Family – And Malia’s Boyfriend

Quarantining is definitely one way to get to know your daughter’s boyfriend. Former President Barack Obama recently opened up on The Bill Simmons Podcast about quarantining with his daughters Malia, 22, and Sasha, 19 – as well as Malia’s boyfriend.

Malia’s boyfriend Rory Farquharson quarantined with the family for a time and taught the former president and his daughter the card game Spades.

“He’s British — wonderful young man. And he was sort of stuck because there was a whole visa thing and he had a job set up, so we took him in,” Obama said, giving Farquharson a rave review. “And I didn’t want to like him, but he’s a good kid.”

Obama did admit there was one big surprise having Malia’s boyfriend stay with the family.

“The only thing you discover: Young men eat. It’s weird to watch them consume food,” Obama said. “My grocery bill went up about 30 percent.”

Like many families, the Obamas also enjoyed spending lots of time together during quarantine.

“It’s a blessing because all the teenage stuff is kind of gone now, and they’re just back, and they love you again and they want to spend time with you,” he told Simmons.

Of course, also like many families, the first few months were a bit more fun and then everyone got a little tired of each other.

“Like, I think, a lot of families, we went through that first month where we were playing games every night and doing a little arts and crafts projects, and then slowly, they started to get a little bored with us,” the former President admitted.
