Mother of Aiden Fucci Sentenced to 30 Days in Jail for Evidence Tampering After Washing Blood From Son’s Jeans After He Fatally Stabbed Cheerleader 114 Times

It has been more than two years since Aiden Fucci fatally stabbed his friend, Tristyn Bailey, 114 times and left her body in the woods. While he has since pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and is now serving out a life sentence in prison, he’s not the only one in his family facing punishment for the crime.

On Friday, May 12, Fucci’s mother, Crystal Smith, pleaded no contest to an evidence tampering charge, a 3rd-degree felony, and will now spend the next 30 days in jail – followed by five years of probation – after video evidence showed her washing blood from her son’s jeans roughly 12 hours after the stabbing.

The video came from her home security feed and shows her taking a pair of damp jeans from her son’s bedroom into a nearby bathroom. She proceeds to scrub blood off the jeans and even shows them to an unidentified woman – Smith had no idea where the blood came from or what happened the night before.

Investigators got in contact with the unidentified woman from the video. According to the witness, Smith asked her if she ‘saw anything’ on the jeans and admitted to washing them. The witness told Smith she didn’t see anything on the jeans, but advised her against washing them – fearing she might get in trouble.

Later that night, both Aiden Fucci and Crystal Smith were placed in a holding room at the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. While Aiden denied anything being on his clothes from the night before, Smith told the truth and said there was blood on the clothes – she still had no idea where the blood had come from.

Investigators found the damp jeans during a search warrant – as well as blood in his bathroom and an empty knife sheath. Aiden Fucci was arrested on May 10 and his mother was arrested on June 4. Fucci was charged with first-degree murder, while his mother was charged with evidence tampering.

The killing happened between midnight and 2 a.m. on May 9, 2021 – it was Mother’s Day. Video evidence showed Aiden Fucci and Tristyn Bailey walking down the street just after midnight. That same video camera angle showed Aiden running in the opposite direction – without Tristyn – roughly two hours later.

Aiden Fucci Hasn’t Been Behaving in Prison

Due to the brutality of the crime and his lack of remorse, Aiden Fucci was tried as an adult – despite being just 14 years old at the time of his arrest – and was sentenced to life in prison on March 24. He was sent to the Suwannee Correctional Institution in Live Oak after his sentencing and has been there ever since.

Multiple reports suggest he has caused a flurry of problems since entering prison. He’s being accused of fighting other inmates, threatening prison guards, having contraband, and even ‘bullying inmates out of their commissary,’ according to The Florida Times-Union. He has been pepper-sprayed several times.

As for his mother, she will be spending the next month at St. Johns County Jail and will serve a 5-year probation sentence once released. In an impact statement, the parents of Tristyn Bailey tried to make sense of what Crystal Smith did – referencing her washing the blood out of the jeans on Mother’s Day.

“I’ve tried to put myself in your shoes on that fateful day a thousand times, but I can’t,” said Tristyn’s mother, Stacey Bailey – adding that her choices that day will haunt her for the rest of her life.
