As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Hutchins passed away after she was shot in the chest by the prop gun Alec Baldwin was holding.

Hutchins, Baldwin, and the director of the movie, Joel Souza were prepping for a rehearsal when the prop gun went off. Souza was also injured when the bullet also hit him in the shoulder.

According to multiple affidavits, before Baldwin was given the gun, it was announced that the firearm was “cold.” It seemed as though no one knew a live round was left in the weapon.

Hutchins left behind a husband and a young 9-year-old son. In his second public statement, Baldwin said he and Hutchins were friends and that he’s been in constant contact with her husband. “He is in shock,” Baldwin revealed.

In a new report by the Los Angeles Times, according to several interviews with crew members, the timeline of events leading up to Hutchins’ death has become clearer. While waiting for the camera crew to get their angles right, Baldwin could be heard explaining what his plan of action was to Hutchins and Souza.

“So, I guess I’m gonna take this out, pull it and go, ‘Bang!’” he said as he gripped the holstered handgun. The gun, was supposed to be loaded with dummy rounds, the LA Times reported, but instead, a live round unloaded from the gun.

It was then that Hutchins and Souza fell to the ground. Hutchins was lying in the arms of the chief electrician as blood poured from her chest. “What the f— was that? That burns!” Souza yelled, as Baldwin reportedly could be heard saying, “What the f— just happened,” over and over again.

Someone started yelling for a medic as several other crew members rushed to Hutchins’ side. According to a boom operator, he looked into her eyes and said, “Oh, that was no good.”

Hutchins replied to him, saying, “No, that was no good. That was no good at all.” Hours later, she would be pronounced dead.

The investigation remains ongoing. It’s unclear what the next steps will be. As of now, filming for Rust has been halted indefinitely.
