On the same day Alec Baldwin was seen with Halyna Hutchins’ husband and 9-year-old son, a source is revealing that the legendary actor is stepping away. This news comes after Baldwin found himself in the middle of a tragic incident.
As Mamas Uncut previously reported, Alec Baldwin was accidentally given a prop gun during rehearsal that had a live round in it. Sadly, Baldwin fired the weapon and killed Hutchins, while also injuring the director, Joel Souza.
According to a recently revealed affidavit, the prop gun was handed to Alec Baldwin by the assistant director after he told the set that it was a “cold gun.” Hutchins’ was struck in the chest by the stray bullet, she passed away at a local New Mexico hospital.
Hutchins was the cinematographer for the movie starring Alec Baldwin. She was just 42 years old.
Alec Baldwin Taking a Step Away From Current Project Amidst Tragedy
A source told People that following the shooting, Baldwin was “hysterical and absolutely inconsolable for hours. Everyone knows this was an accident, but he’s absolutely devastated.”

“[Baldwin] is someone who really deeply cares, so he can be very hard on himself,” the source shared with People. “That’s true in general, in situations nowhere near as serious as this. But in this situation, it’s a whole other level because of the loss of life involved. It’s going to take him time to figure all this out. He needs to take a while to himself, to be with his family.”
The source continued saying, “This was pretty devastating. This is how he handles difficult times. Whenever something bad happens, in the short term, he removes himself from [the] public eye.”
Prior to making the decision to remove himself from the public eye, Alec Baldwin did make a public statement almost immediately following the tragedy. He wrote on Twitter that “there are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother, and deeply admired colleague of ours.”
“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna,” Baldwin continued.
Halyna Hutchins’ Husband Speaks Out
Also opening up for the first time publicly is Hutchins’ husband. On Instagram, Matthew Hutchins shared a few photos of his family of three with a simple captions, “We miss you, Halyna!”
Matthew also told the Daily Mail that Baldwin has been “very supportive” of him and his son during all of this. Baldwin was seen walking with the father and son on Saturday.
The husband also told Insider that he is “not going to be able to comment about the facts or the process of what we’re going through right now, but I appreciate that everyone has been very sympathetic. I think that we will need a little bit of time before we can really encapsulate her life in a way that is easy to communicate.”
The investigation into the accidental shooting is ongoing. It remains unclear if any criminal charges will be brought.
