The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel actress Alex Borstein might just be the queen of acceptance speeches, especially when it comes to thanking the people who made it possible for her to have such an illustrious career.

Look, we get it, award shows can sometimes drag. Especially when those accepting the awards make their speeches a little too long. But every once in awhile, an actor or actress gives a speech that will have tears streaming down your face.

And during the Critic’s Choice awards, Borstein gave one of those speeches. While accepting the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, the 48-year-old dedicated her award to her mother and father.

While her mother couldn’t be there with them, Borstein’s father was her date for the night. She began, “Wow, I should have peed. Thank you to the cast of Maisel and the crew of Maisel, to Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino.”

The mom of two continued, “This is a huge honor but not a huge surprise because I was raised by two of the harshest critics in the world. One of them is here with me tonight, my father.”

“My parents were able to in a single breath tell me that they love me, that I was the greatest thing since sliced bread but also that I ate too much bread, that I should stop eating so much bread, that I was starting to look like bread.”

Borstein then became emotional, adding, “This is dedicated to you, mom. You are the greatest critics in the world. You fostered my quirks and you fueled my flames, you made me funny. You made me have children, which cracked me open and helped me find my heart, which was you guys. Thank you all.”

And this is far from Borstein’s only great acceptance speech. Last year, while accepting an Emmy for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy, the artist shared a poignant story.

She said: “I dedicate this to the strength of a woman, to Amy Sherman-Palladino, to every woman on the Maisel cast and crew, to my mother […] to my grandmother. They are immigrants, they are holocaust survivors.”

“My grandmother turned to a guard. She was in line to be shot into a pit. She said, ‘What happens if I step out of line?’ He said, ‘I don’t have the heart to shoot you but somebody will.’ and she stepped out of line. For that, I am here and my children are here. So step out of line, Ladies, step out of line.

Beautiful.
