While a guest on The Ellen Fisher Podcast, actress Alicia Silverstone talked about many topics. From her veganism and raising her son vegan to parenting, Silverstone covered it all.
Silverstone is a mom to an 11-year-old boy named Bear. She shares her son with her ex-husband, Christopher Jarecki.
Clueless Star Alicia Silverstone Says She Still Co-Sleeps With Her 11-Year-Old Son
The actress went on to talk about her parenting style, saying she prefers to “follow nature” when it comes to raising Bear. As a result, Silverstone admitted that she and Bear still sleep together.
“If you were in any kind of wild setting where there are animals … if you put your baby over there,” she said, pointing away from herself, “your baby is going to get eaten. It’s not ideal for the baby to be over there.”
Silverstone continued saying motherhood is a “divine” experience for her before explaining why Bear is an only child. According to the actress, she wanted to have more children, but in due time. First, she wanted to “save every moment” of Bear’s life first.
I didn’t want to have one right away because I was so in love with my Bear. I wanted to squeeze every little moment out of him, so it wasn’t until he was like 3 that I was ready to make another baby and then I didn’t have a partner, so that’s why I don’t have four babies.”
However, when it was time to have more children, her “relationship got messed up, and it wasn’t a great time to bring one in.”

Many people are taking issue with her decision to co-sleep with her son for so long. “Your son should be SLEEPING BY HIMSELF at age 11. If you need a sleeping partner get a dog.”
But there are several moms also defending Alicia’s relationship with her son. “So many hateful comments. Wow. Alicia, I have always liked you and I think your close relationship with your son is beautiful.”
“My son slept with me for a long time and now he is a perfectly happy and smart high schooler with no issues. And he treats his girlfriend like a queen. Don’t listen to the negativity. Keep living your beautiful life! Ps-Bear is so cute!”
“Me and my only son are this close too. Slept with me as well at 11. I wouldn’t change a thing. 19 now, goes by fast. Haters don’t have this love,” another commenter wrote.”
This isn’t the first time Silverstone has shocked the world with her parenting styles. Back in 2020, Silverstone revealed that she still bathed with her son.
“My son and I take baths together, and when he’s not with me, I take a bath and that really feels nourishing and comforting,” she explained to The New York Times.
When responding to some of the backlash she’s received over the years, Silverstone said that “People said lots of different things, and I was sort of ‘the freak,’ and I guess I’ll take pride in that because it is hard to be the person that’s speaking out, and it is hard to be the person that is saying the thing that isn’t what everybody else wants to hear.”
