“Distraught by the mass shooting last night outside the venue in Sacramento,” Aly and AJ tweeted on April 3. “All of our thoughts are with the families of those who lost their lives and those recovering today. We’re praying for the health care workers caring for them. We hope all our fans made it home safe.”

In addition to sharing their heartfelt message of support to the victims and health care workers, the band also described how the incident touched them.

“Our bus was caught in the crossfire but we sheltered in place and everyone in our touring group is ok,” they also shared on Twitter. “Thank you for everyone reaching out. A reminder to keep your loved ones extra close today. We have to do something about gun violence in this country.”

While we are happy that Aly and AJ and their touring team are okay, there were others who were not so lucky.

Six people were killed and twelve others were injured in downtown Sacramento in an area of the city that usually bustles with nightlife, the Sacramento Bee reports.

The death toll and number of injuries make this incident the worst mass shooting in the city’s history, the outlet also reports.

The shooting reportedly followed a fight and authorities recovered a stolen handgun at the scene. “We have confirmed there were multiple shooters,” Police Chief Kathy Lester said following a preliminary investigation.

As of Monday morning, no suspects are in custody. Lester did stress that cameras in the area did “capture portions of the shootings.”

“We know that a large fight took place just prior to the shootings,” the said Police Chief, who was sworn in as chief two weeks ago. She described the violence as “unprecedented in my 27 years with the Sacramento Police Department.”

With assurances that a thorough investigation was underway, Lester also appealed to the public for help identifying the suspects. “If anyone saw anything, has video or can provide any information to the police department, we are asking for their assistance,” she requested.
