‘I Know What I Saw’: Amber Heard’s Sister Speaks Out Following Courtroom Battle With Johnny Depp

A little less than a week after Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s defamation lawsuit has come to a resolution, Amber Heard’s sister, Whitney Heard, who testified on her behalf during the trial, is speaking out.

While Depp and Heard issued their own personal statements immediately after the jury’s verdict was read in court, Whitney is now following suit. In her statement, Whitney voiced her support for Amber again.

“I still stand with you, sissy,” Whitney began. “Yesterday, today, and tomorrow I will always be proud of you for standing up for yourself, for testifying both here in Virginia and in the UK, and for being the voice of so many who can’t speak to the things that happen behind closed doors.”

As Whitney continued, she revealed that Amber and her legal team knew this legal battle wasn’t going to be an easy one. “We knew that this was going to be an uphill battle and that the cards were stacked against us,” she wrote.

“But you stood up and spoke out regardless. I am so honored to testify for you, and I would do it a million times over because I know what I saw and because the truth is forever on your side. I’m so sorry that it wasn’t reflected in the decision made by this jury, but I will never give up on you, and neither will anyone who stands with you.”

“Forever by your side,” Whitney concluded her statement, although with the hashtag, “I stand with Amber Heard.”

As Mamas Uncut previously reported, on June 1, a jury found that Heard defamed her ex-husband when she wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in 2018. In the op-ed, she claimed that she was the face of domestic violence.

During the six-week-long trial, both Depp and Heard testified and called allies of their own to testify. During the trial, accusations of abuse on both sides were made.

However, despite Heard’s gruesome and graphic testimony, the jury found in a unanimous decision that Johnny Depp had proven defamation by Amber Heard on all three counts. In Heard’s counter lawsuit, the jury only found an issue with one of Heard’s claims, in which Depp’s lawyer claimed in 2020 that Heard and her friends conspired against Depp.

In the end, Depp was awarded $15 million in damages, which the judge capped at $10.325 million. And Heard was awarded $2 million.

Heard’s legal teams have since revealed that they plan to appeal the verdict in the future. According to Heard’s lawyers, she does not have the means to pay the damages.
