16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom star, Amber Portwood, who currently appears in the latest season of Teen Mom OG on MTV, has been candid in sharing heartbreaking details about her mental health battles with bipolar and borderline personality disorders. During last week’s Teen Mom OG episode, Amber opened up even more, letting cameras film a therapy session. She told MTV that she was taking this deeply personal step because, “I think there’s just such a big stigma against people like me.”
During the therapy session, she was joined by her fiancé, Andrew Glennon, who shared, “I think a lot of people try to hide their condition and not really be open about it.” Watch a clip below.
Amber opened up to the psychiatrist about how challenging her mood swings are and that “tiny things” enrage her. She confessed that she sometimes feels attacked, including by Andrew.
“Sometimes I feel attached when Andrew doesn’t understand things,” she said. “There’s things that he doesn’t understand about bipolar and about what I have and it hurts my feelings because I want the number-one person to know everything about me.”
During the session, Amber was in tears revealing that she has tried different medications to try and feel like a “normal person.” Her goal is to get in a better place emotionally so that she and Andrew can stay together. “I love this man more than anything, and he treats me really well,” she said.
“I think it just bothers me because I want to hear someone tell me there’s a cure, so I can walk outside and feel happy,” she shared through tears.
