Amy Schumer recently shared to Instagram how she underwent surgery to manage her endometriosis.
“I’m feeling stronger and thrilled about life,” Schumer begins.
“I attached the audio of @seckinmd going over my pathology with me if that interests you. I cry through most of the findings. I had a tumor in my endo ravaged appendix. Chocolate cysts in both ovaries. Endo of the uterus, psoas all over all my lifelong pain explained and lifted out of my body.”
“I am already a changed person. I am busting with joy for the new energy I have to be with my son. Thank you @rachelfeinstein_ for getting me this shirt I needed to let people know what’s up. And anyone wondering if this is connected to my difficult pregnancy and hyperemesis I say f*** yes!”
“I can’t answer medically because there is no research on this s*** because they only happen TO WOMEN and there is no time to study them because all resources need to be funneled into researching ERECTILE DISFUNCTION. THERE IS BARELY ANY RESEARCH ON ENDOMETRIOSIS WHICH OVER 10 percent of women have. ALL FUNDING SEEMS TO GO TO D***MEREGENCIES.”
Many of Schumer’s friends and followers were quick to show their support.
One user said: “Amy!! This video brought me to tears. I’m so sorry for your suffering and I hope you’re recovering well. You are an #endowarrior and we are forever grateful for messages like this. These are the answers I wanted to hear for the last 10 years, after dozens of doctors told me my painful periods were normal. It wasn’t normal, and these are the messages I was scouring through the internet to find. You are saving lives and I’m so proud of you.”
Followed by: “I’m so glad you have this relief. No one should have to live with wild amounts of insane pain or organ manglement because of new flaccid peen meds. Or live without explosively empowering t shirts like this.”
While another shared how her transparency inspired her in her own journey.
“Expecting Amy made me feel so much less alone through the pregnancy I’m in now. No one ever speaks so candidly about the un-instagramable side of pregnancy. This message about endo is also so important. Thank you for putting it all out there, Amy! You’re helping so many women!”
