Angus Cloud’s Cause of Death Revealed

Angus Cloud, who rose to stardom when he was cast as Fezco in the popular drama Euphoria, was just 25 years old when he died on July 31. On Thursday (September 21), a spokesperson for the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau in California revealed his official cause of death – which shocked the industry.

“Angus Cloud died from a lethal combination of fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine and in what is ruled as an accidental overdose,” the spokesperson told CNN – confirming what many had believed. “Angus suffered from acute intoxication from the combination of drugs, which also included benzodiazepine.”

His death came a little over two months after his father died of stage 4 mesothelioma (cancer) on May 18. Reports suggested that he was having a hard time mourning the death of his father, who was laid to rest one week prior to Angus’ death. To help him through the grieving process, he moved in with his mother.

When news of Angus’ death went viral, many outlets and fans were quick to label it a suicide as he had been open about mental health in the past. Less than a week after his death, his mother – Lisa Cloud Mclaughlin – took to Facebook to refute those assumptions and claimed his death was unintentional.

“Friends, I want you all to know I appreciate your love for my family at this shattered time. I also want you to know that although my son was in deep grief about his father’s untimely death from mesothelioma, his last day was a joyful one,” she wrote in the post on August 4 – adding that he didn’t intend to end his life.

She went on to say that they might soon learn that he accidentally overdosed, but wanted his fans and anyone else who followed his life and career to know that he ‘did not intend to check out of this world.’ In fact, he had recently moved back home in an effort to help his family both emotionally and financially.

Mclaughlin also revealed that he was actively working on an art project at the time of his death – claiming that he ‘put his head on the desk where he was working on art project’s, fell asleep and didn’t wake up.’ She had given him a hug and told him she loved him just moments before he fell asleep at his desk.

Angus Cloud Never Wanted to Be Famous

In an interview for i-D’s The Timeless Issue magazine in March 2023, Angus Cloud opened up about his rise to stardom – which happened out of the blue. He was walking the streets of Brooklyn when he was approached by a casting agent who was looking for the right guy to play a part in a new drama series.

That drama series just so happened to be Euphoria and he ended up being cast as Fezco. At first, he thought the whole thing was a scam – after all, opportunities like this don’t just happen out of the blue. He quickly realized what he had in front of him and decided it was just too good of an opportunity to pass up.

“Then they brought me back in and they showed me the role, and it made more sense. Because in my mind I was like, they stopped me because I look like I could be a star? Then I’m like, no, it’s because I look like I could be a drug dealer,” he said – referring to his character, who was a protective drug dealer.

He went on to say that he wasn’t like all the other celebrities in Hollywood – the main difference being that he never intended to be famous and never worked for it. In fact, he said in an interview with Interview Magazine that, while he appreciated people showing their love and support, he didn’t like being famous.
